Satur Afternoon:
I took Bear for a walk. While we were walking, he got wrapped around a tree and started yanking on the leash. Well, apparently his collar has gotten a little loose and he pulled right out of it. Once he realized he was free free, he took off running and wouldn’t come back. (My dog is a little too smart for his own good in that he knows he’s in big trouble when he gets off the leash.) I didn’t panic right away since we were close to home, he knows where he lives and I figured he would be back shortly. Well, by Sunday evening I was a complete wreck.
Fast forward to Monday:
I called animal control this morning to see if Bear had been picked up, and he hadn’t. I called the Alabama Pet Registry and let all the details they asked for and I also went to their website and posted the information there. I called nearby vet clinics. I made fliers to take around this evening. I had to compose myself and stop crying after every phone call since no one had brought in or called about a dog matching his description.
I decided to go to animal control during my lunch break and check to see if maybe they just didn’t have the paper work done on him yet. Despite being sick to my stomach with worry and having a tension/stress headache, I actually had a good feeling about it.
And you know what?
They had just brought him in and hadn’t even finished the paper work yet. I walked back to where all the male dogs were kept. When I saw him, I started crying with joy. I have never been so happy to see my dog. I have never been so happy to be slobbered on by Bear!
I got him out of the doggie slammer and he is now at home, comfortable with all the food and water he could possibly want. I’ll be resting MUCH easier tonight. I’ll actually get some sleep!
I don’t know if you’ve ever experienced anything like that in your life, and if you haven’t, be thankful.
Also, I have the most amazing, wonderful, precious friends ever! See for youself:
Ginny went around with me yesterday while I walked our (my and Bear’s ) normal route and talked to familiars for them to keep their eyes open for him. Then she stayed with me at my apartment for a couple of hours because I needed the company. Love you Ginny!
Then April went looking for Bear last night in case she could find him. I’m guessing she probably took her dog Grace with her, hoping that might entice Bear if she ran across him. Love you April!
Then April got Scott to go around the neighborhood today looking for him. Love you Scott!
I told my friends Mark and David and they asked me to e-mail a picture of Bear to them. Then, unbeknownst to me (until I called Mark to tell him that I’d found Bear), Mark was combing Southside with Bear’s picture asking people if they’d seen him! Love you Mark!
LOVE YOU FRIENDS!!!!!! THANK YOU FOR BEING THERE FOR ME THROUGH ALL THIS!!!!

I am SO HAPPY for you! Losing a pet is such a horrible feeling, I’m glad your story has a happy ending.
I’m glad it turned out in the best way possible for you Grace! Hopefully it freaked Bear out enough that he won’t run away again.
