Yarn Overload

This is all the yarn I’ve spun up in the last couple of weeks:

Wool top I handpainted in my class at SAFF. Lace weight singles. 160 yds, I think.

Both skanks of yarn are from Merino Roving from Shepherd’s Corner. Worsted weight.

Dark purple: 170 yds 2-ply
Light purple: 190 yds 2-ply

Lighting makes all the difference. The picture on yesterday’s post is the dark purple yarn. Crazy, huh? This once again reaffirms the fact that I have crap lighting in the den. I suppose it doesn’t really help that I’m taking pictures at night, either.

78 yds. Navajo ply. Mystery fiber. Sheep Shed Studio grab bag roving.

Last night my new drive band arrived from Spinning Bunny (along with a few other goodies that came with the Spinner’s Gift Kit I ordered for myself). I had to test it out, so I started spinning up this:

Mystery roving from Darlene, handpainted with Elizabeth

I’ve done my best to split the roving (4.25 oz) up evenly? to see if I can spin enough yarn for socks. The section of roving I’m actually spinning right now is the dark blue/green and turqoise you see in the top and bottom of the roving. It’s dark, but oh so pretty. I lurves it. And my new drive band? It’s like having sex with my wheel. It’s that good.

  • LOVE how the roving dyed and hope you can get enough for a pair of socks!!! (It is Corriedale).

Your yarn looks GREAT!!! I haven’t spun at all since our spin in!!

  • Oh sure, YOU reference sex with your wheel and it just BLOWS BY everyone. I compare spinning to the dirty dirty sex and OMG! GROSS! TERRIFYING! TMI!

    damn double standards!
    ;)

  • The yarn is beautimous! We have crappy lighting in our den also… every picture has kind of a tan/brown tint from the florescent lights and the brown-paper-grocery-sack-color walls. Need to paint… but want to spin or knit instead :)

The mystery roving is pretty! Can’t wait to see what it looks like spun!

  • They’re ALL pretty but the very top one is my favorite. I always wish that you handspinners/handpainters would knit up a little bit of the yarn so we could see what it looks like THAT way. Because apparently I have no imagination. lol

Oh and on the 3rd picture you said “skanks” of yarn. heh heh – skanks!

  • Wow, that purple yarn does look like what I just spun. Mine was from Copper Moose called called Ruby Twist. I love all your yarns. I want to grow up and spin like you. You so good!

  • Those yarns look beautimous! Good job on the plying. So nice and even. *sigh* I agree with Cindy…can I grow up and spin like you? And have sex with my wheel? ;-)

  • Grace, your yarn is fantabulous!!! I’m hoping my Shepherd’s Corner will look that wonderful once plied. I’m actually scared to ply it cause I’m afraid of screwing it up……..any pointers???
SEX with your wheel………………..you may be onto something!!!!

  • Having sex with your wheel? I think all this orifice talk has had an effect on you…

  • Did you seriously just call them “skanks” of yarn?
