Where Is House When You Need Him?

If you have been following me on Twitter, then you will know that I have suddenly and without warning (hence the suddenly) developed swelling and nerve pain in my hands. Both of them.

At first I thought, “Well shit. Here comes the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.” And so I made an appointment to see my chiropractor. I went and showed him my now scarier than man hands which I’m sure freaked him out, but he was professional enough not to recoil. The Marshmallow Man had more feminine hands than I did last week. He determined that it wasn’t CTS and checked me out and decided that I needed a vascular flow test and a nerve conduction test. That’ll happen at some point this week.

Certain people who shall remain nameless, like B, felt that I needed to see a “real” doctor. OK. Fine. I do not appreciate you insinuating that my chiropractor doesn’t know what he’s doing, but if it’ll make you feel better and shut you up, I’ll go. So I made an appointment with the family medicine doctor, who until last Friday, was my primary care physician.

Please keep in mind that my hands were so swollen that B was trying to talk me into going to the ER to have my wedding band cut off my finger. I was having significant NERVE pain in my hands with no joint or muscle pain. I have no histroy of nor do I have carpal tunnel syndrome. Do you know what that idiot quack who has an MD behind his name diagnosed me with? HORMONAL CHANGES.

WTF????!!!!!?!?!?!?!

And then he prescribed me something for the swelling. Told me to take them until I started my next cycle and see if that didn’t help.

Again. WTF?????!!!!!!?!?!?!?!?!??!

And he kept saying hormonal changes with this stupid grin on his face. I’m sorry, but I’ve never EVER heard of a single woman ever saying, “Gee, my hands are swelling and I’ve got NERVE PAIN. I MUST BE STARTING MY PERIOD.”

Fucking moron.

And the pills he prescribed for the swelling? Helped a little, but now that the swelling’s down, the NERVE PAIN HAS INCREASED TO ALL THE WAY UP TO MY SHOULDERS. You know what Dr. Quack told me to take for the NERVE PAIN? Aleve.

Say it with me, people: FUCKING MORON.

I have an appointment with an internist tomorrow morning who will hopefully actually listen to me when I tell him what’s been going on. Wish me luck.

  • OMG!! I’m glad you are going to an “internist”! I’ll be anxious to hear what he has to say. Must know this quacks name to make sure I nor anyone else I know will go to him!!!!

    Oy.

My former family practitioner got the boot from me when he told me to eat a sandwich to lose weight.

That convo went something like this:

Dr. Moron: “So, I have noticed that you need to lose a significant amount of weight.”

Me: “Yes? I weighed 11 lbs at birth and just kept on going…”

Dr. Moron: “Well, you know, here’s what I do for weight control. Eat a sandwich. And a bag of chips for lunch. That’s what I do.”

Me: “Thanks for the hot tip, asshat.”

  • Holy crap! That is VERY serious and I agree with B about going to the ER!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • No! It could TOTALLY be your monthlies that’s making your hands swell up! Or maybe your uterus is tilted. Either way, you should definitely stop running because it’ll make your girl parts fall out. Now get yourself pregnant and go make me some dinner.

(I hope your hands feel better soon).

  • Ew. Sorry to hear about that! Damn doctors. I bet he looked at you like you were the idiot, huh?

Well, I hope you feel better!

  • Fucking Moron! I SAW your hands and mine didn’t even look like that when I was PREGNANT (and trust me when I say every SINGLE PART OF MY BODY swelled to twice it’s size).

Why are men so quick to deem EVERYTHING a problem with Aunt Flo? MAYBE YOU’RE JUST A FUCKTARD!

Dr. House! Paging Dr. Gregory House. STAT!!!

  • I can’t really come up with anything after reading Emily’s post. ROTFL!!!

  • Nerve conduction tests on your hands will determine if you have CTS!!! Remember, I’m the “expert” three surgeries later! lol
    I can feel your pain………………..

  • Viv

WELL??? What did the internist tell you??? AND, can you tell me who this retard is that told you it was your hormones? I would like to make an appointment with him to kick his ass.

    Try a neurologist. OR…. a voodoo doll may work….

If all else fails, have a glass of wine. That usually does it for me.
