So maybe I need to take a class. I read through the directions. Twice. I printed some more directions off the internet and read them. Then my head hurt. I’m still not sure what I’m doing, but when I tried to practice spinning with the piece of yarn, I don’t think I was doing it right. But man, my spindle is pretty.
I worked on the Manly Prima Donna Jolly Roger Sock instead. And now I’m not so sure the jolly rogers are going to turn out well. I’m about halfway through the first repeats of the jolly rogers and they mostly look like little blobs of purls. Maybe they’ll end up suggesting jolly rogers instead of actually looking like jolly rogers. It could be that the yarn is just too dark and they just won’t turn out well. I don’t know.
Maybe I should’ve gotten some white sock yarn to do the jolly rogers. Is there even such a thing? White sock yarn? Non-colored/non-dyed sock yarn? Is that blasphemous? I’m not really sure.
I’m going to finish the first repeat of jolly rogers and then decide if it’s a good idea or not. I’ll have to admit, I’ll be sad if they don’t turn out because I did maths. I even went so far as to figure out placement and how many repeats I could do. That’s pretty huge. Does this mean I’m maturing as a knitter? What next? Swatches? I suppose anything’s possible.

Don’t go to the swatch! Stay AWAY from the swatch!!!
Use Dale Babygarn for the white JRs. It’s not going to be in a highly used area of the sock, so it’d be fine.
I know my limits and fully intend to take a class in spinning (either at KN or SAFF). Otherwise my spindle would simply be a top. An expensive top at that. I do think I will order a kit like yours though, it looks like a good deal.
