Has anyone ever seen “But I’m A Cheerleader”? Great movie. True Directions was the camp in the movie.
I am officially single. I am legally divorced. It feels good. I feel like I’ve been reborn. I can do anything with my life without having to check with anyone (except Bear). I am drunk with freedom. I feel like I have been given super powers. Must. Use. Them. For. Good.
To honor my new found freedom, I am going to do my best to pursue a career that is more in line with my personality and my character. I have ordered the exam study guide. There is no turning back now! What career is this? I’m going to take the written exam to be a foreign services officer (foreign diplomat). I’ve been putting off ordering the study guide for about a month. Mostly due to indecision. I suffer from that quite a bit, on occasion. I looked at the webiste again, and read a few things, got excited and plunged right on in. I know it’s probably the best thing for me out there. It combines several of my favorite things: travelling to foreign countries, learning about foreign cultures, learning foreign languages, diversity and helping people to name a few. There are five different tracks that you can choose from: Management Affairs, Consular Affairs, Economic Affairs, Political Affairs and Public Diplomacy. I’m leaning towards Consular Affairs as my #1 choice. Public Diplomacy would be #2.
You have to take a written test first. If you pass that, then you are invited back for an oral assessment. If you pass that, you are placed on a list of eligible hires and they do a background check. If you pass the background check, you get reviewed by a Final Review Panel. If they approve you, then maybe you get hired. Eventually. Maybe. Well, regardless, I’m going for it. You can find out all you want about becoming a Foreign Services Officer here.
In knitting news, I am slowly finishing up my hat. I haven’t decided yet if I like it or not. I have been woefully neglecting my sock and I’m courting the idea of starting on a tank top. Yes, you read that right. I want to knit a tank top in the middle of winter. I’m also starting to feel guilty again about my Hoodie. Hoodie is so patient, just sitting in her basket, waiting for me to love her again. In truth, I lent out my Stitch ‘n Bitch book (the original one) to another friend and haven’t gotten it back yet and did NOT make a copy of the pattern. Silly girl. I got all my OTHER books back from my co-worker today. YAY! I think I will be knitting tonight. Hopefully finishing up the hat and working a little on the sock. I have made progress, I have taken pictures, but I have not uploaded the pictures yet. My only excuse is laziness.
In movie news, I have seen the following movies: Lemony Snicket, Phantom of the Opera and Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. All of them are fabulous for completely different reason. Jim Carey is amazing as Count Olaf in Lemony Snicket. Phantom of the Opera is amazing. It is beautiful. It is essentially the same as the play, but better (and I have seen the play in London with the original cast). And Life Aquatic? Well, if you loved Royal Tenenbaums, then you will love Life Aquatic. Bill Murray is great. As always. So is Willem Dafoe. It’s just a really good movie.
I’m planning on painting my living this weekend. The color is called cut ruby. It’s very red. Yummy. However, the painting may or may not happen depending on whether or not I decide to drive to Atlanta to go see A Very Long Engagement, since it’s not playing in Birmingham. Decisions, decisions. I might even be able to do both. We shall see…
