Tour de Fleece, Day One

Last year I marveled at the folks who did Tour de Fleece and figured it was something I would never be able to do. Not because I’m not capable of completing a project. It’s just that when I joint a KAL I generally manage to do exactly anything BUT the project. But. BUT. This time I decided that I wanted to do this. And I want to finish. So I’m doing this on my own. But don’t worry. I”m going to share it all with you.

For the start of my Tour, I’m finishing up spinning a trio of batts I started last weekend.

Pre-Tour

Pre-Tour Spinning

See how uneven the yarn is placed on the bobbin? Yeah, let this be a warning to you. Be careful when you drink and spin.

This is a trio of batts that Elizabeth of Trailing Yarns bought me at SAFF about 2 or 3 years ago. I forget which. I drove to SAFF, she bought me roving instead of giving me gas money. I saw it as a win-win. I mean, I was going to buy gas anyway, right?

It’s actually a group of 3 small batts totaling 4 oz of BFL, Corriedale, Mohair, Firestar and Angelina. So I’ve been pre-drafting.

Also, I just thought you should know that if you have a large yarn bowl, it makes for a fantastic roving bowl as well. And well, roving is just pre-yarn, really.

Ready to Spin

All Ready to Spin

My goal for Day 1 was to finish spinning one bobbin. I finished this bobbin at 12:22 am on July 3, but I think that’s close enough to make no never mind, so let’s just let that one slide, mkay?

I now have 2 out of 3 batts spun up. The plan is to spin up each batt on a bobbin and ply up all 3 into a true 3-ply.

Almost a Full Set

1 5/8 & 1 3/8 ounces on those two bobbins. I’ve got one last batt that weight 1 1/4 ounces. I’m feeling pretty good about this.
