In Which We Survive Christmas and Snowpocalypse 2010

It’s a Festivus miracle! We all survived the Christmas season without any major hitches and then yesterday, it snowed all day. I’m not sure if it qualifies as a white Christmas since in our neighborhood the snow didn’t stick until today and even then it wasn’t all that much that stuck. But man did it ever come down!

Still, Charlie and I feel the same way about the stuff.

Only in Alabama

Sometimes I think Alabama is like the Bermuda Triangle of weather – weird shit happens and it’s just kind of expected. Friday we had a thunderstorm that was so intense, our house was rocked by thunder several times in a row and for fairly long periods of time. Today? Today we have had about 1 -2 inches of snow. It’s really messed up.

To give you an idea of how much rain we had Friday, here’s a video of Charlie with the horses and donkeys down at the farm YESTERDAY and you can see all the sloshy puddles in the field. And also an idiot dog “playing” with animals that could easily kill him by stepping on him. You can also hear my SIL and me laughing at Charlie.

And here are pictures I took earlier this morning in our yard. As in TODAY.

We got quite a few inches, but it’s already starting to melt. Because that’s how we roll in Alabama. Tomorrow it’ll probably be warm enough to go swimming.

No Wonder I'm Tired

Friday night when I got home, my new phone had already arrived!! I have to say, T-Mobile has their shit together. Excellent customer service and fast shipping. They rock my mobile world. Hopefully the skin I made for my phone will be here soon. That would be great. And my phone! It rocks three kinds of sideways. I lurve it. I will show you pictures when?its skin arrives. That way you can see it in all its glory.

Saturday I woke up rather violently at ass crack thirty when my dad called to tell me that it had snowed and we needed to get out in it with the Boy before it all melted. B found it quite hilarious that when my phone rings that early in the morning I will actually levitate out of the bed.

Saturday afternoon involved a pizza party for a certain little boy who is turning 8 this Thursday. He won’t be at home the weekend after his birthday, so?we?had his birthday party this past Saturday.?The first?thing he asked when he knew it had snowed was, “Are the roads safe for driving?” The snow was great and all, but only so long as it didn’t interfere with his party.

A?Boy’s got to have?his priorities, you know.

I’m glad to report that the snow did not interfere with his birthday party and there was pizza making and eating for 8 boys and girls. Oh, and some cake, too. They had a blast.

The party was a huge success. The best part? Um, all of it.

Saturday night we went out to dinner with B’s brother’s family at Shogun (Japanese steakhouse)?and I obsessed about the rubber drunken?chicken pirate and his bottle of rum.

Why was it on that chef’s cart? What was the purpose? He didn’t use it in his cooking “act.” Is it a good luck charm? Why is the chicken a pirate? Where can I get one? On second review of the chicken pirate, that might not be so much a bottle of rum as maybe a spy glass. But whatever. He’s a pirate. You know he’s been drinking.

Sunday there was much cleaning, because, you know, cleanliness is close to godliness. And, well, we’re all a bunch of god-wannabees. And then there was a spin-in over at Jessi’s. (Except, whenever I was talking to B about it, I kept calling it a spin-out.) I didn’t take a single picture (Jessi remembered to take pictures. Go look at hers.)?until I got home.?When I went to get Jezebel out of the car, the lighting was perfect so I took some shots of what I had spun.

Hmmmm… Apparently I am not a?clean god. Ignore the dust on my wheel, please.

Weekend Update with Pictures!

Snow Day

We had?SNOW IN 2008 for all of most of one day. Charlie was not impressed. And he is not actually going poo, he is hunched over to stay warm. I PROMISE. He pooped after I took the picture.

I spent most of the weekend spinning yarn and weighing roving with my new scale.

Purple Merino Yummy Goodness
This is actually the dark purple?yarn I finished spinning last week.

I finished the 8 ounces of light purple roving I got from Shepherd’s Corner?at SAFF this past October and I spun up some of the mill ends I got from the Sheep Shed Studio. I have no idea what the fiber is, but what I used was a creamy white, light coffee brown and a deep rich dark chocolate brown that almost looks black. I think I got somewhere around 160 yards of Navajo plied yarn of that and, um…..a lot of yards with the light purple. I forgot to count that. Well, not so much forgot to count it as was in a hurry to get it off the niddy noddy.

Yesterday was my little sister’s birthday, so we headed down to T-town to spend the afternoon with her and her companion. We had a lot of fun and I gave her this:

Except it’s not really that dark. Damn the lighting in the den!

And some homemade chocolate chip cookies. The cookies are decadent and delicious. She said so. The yarn is more of my handspun?made from?roving from Shepherd’s Corner. They are my favorite, in case you haven’t noticed. Most of my roving comes from them. And I can only get their roving at SAFF. And I don’t remember the yardage, but I do remember that it was a lot and it’s probably about a DK weight. It got the Sister Squooshy Approval? and that’s really all that matters.

Oh yeah, and HRD has one leg that is appropriately proportioned to the rest of his body. I just wish I had paid better attention to the decreases when I was knitting it. I’ll?kinda be winging the second leg.

B spent a good bit of the weekend painting our bathroom. It’s so fantastic in there, I can’t even begin to tell you! It used to be this awful pee yellow color, and now it’s a lovely shade of light blue. And we got a new light fixture and it REALLY brightened up the bathroom.?Tres magnifique! I should take pictures of his handiwork and show you. It is totally blogworthy.

Unfortunately, when he wasn’t doing that, he was doing homework. School blows sometimes, but the payoff is great! I’m really proud of him for not just sticking with it, but excelling at it.
