Observations About Knitting on a Plane

Some things I have noticed while knitting on a plane.

  • People generally give me wide berth.
  • People also give me furtive glances.
  • When someone does ask me about what I’m doing, their response to, “I’m knitting [fill in the blank]” is to act like I just said, “Rocket science. In Latin. With my eyes closed.”
  • I am never asked to put my knitting away during takeoff or landing. I think this is for two reasons.
    1. I’m holding pointy needles.
    2. No one has ever been seriously injured by a ball of yarn.
  • In a nutshell, knitting on a plane generally means plenty of uninterrupted knitting time. Which, when you have no choice but to travel, is a great way to pass the time.
