Shark Week(end)

This week has been stupid. Work weeks that start on a Tuesday always through me completely off my game. Then throw in a sick kid who started out with a cold that turned into a sinus infection, 2 trips to the pediatrician and staying home for 3 days. And then top it off with the start of shark week on a Friday. This week has been pretty much sucktastic. For all of us.

I’ve decided the best thing to do is put on my pajamas and knit.  Good thing I started on Shetland Shorty last night.

The yarn is Kraemer Sterling Silk & Silver. I’m absolutely enchanted. How can I not be? It’s SHINY!

Meanwhile, Chloe and Chelsea are entertaining themselves by playing Burnout on the PS3.

Why won't my car go?

More Baby Knits

The project I was so furiously knitting on the way to Florida is a present for the BAD Boy’s teacher. She’s having a baby very soon and BAD Boy wanted to give her a Christmas present and wanted it to be for the baby. I offered to knit something for her and his eyes got as big as saucers at the suggestion. I took that as a yes and commenced to find a pattern to knit for his teacher’s baby.

I scoured Ravelry and found Helena from Knitty to be perfect for what I had in mind. I actually started on it last Friday. This is what I’ve gotten done so far:

I absolutely ADORE top down raglan anything. I think the next sweater I knit for myself will be top down raglan. And I am totally enchanted with this pattern. It is easy to follow and the lace is easy to memorize. I lurves it. Also, remember how I said no more cotton for me? Well I lied. The yarn is Debbie Bliss All Seasons Cotton. Which is really a cotton/acrylic blend, but it doesn’t feel like cotton and doesn’t act like cotton so I am going to pretend that it is not cotton and continue on with my current infatuation with yarn and pattern.

The last day of school is December 19 before the break. I have until then to finish this baby up. I am so there. I also think I’d rather do buttons instead of ties. Good thing my LYS has a great selection of buttons!

Disgustingly Cute

The other day when I was being all vague and whatnot? That was because I was knitting Trellis for my friend Kate’s soon to be born baby girl. And let me just say this. I love baby sweaters so much, even the seaming is not a chore.

I didn’t block it though because, well, I decided not to. All right fine. I got a little lazy. And also wanted to dye roving. Which I totally did AND finished dyeing it and everything before 11:00 pm. I rock.

ANYWAY. Baby knits. This is going to be about baby knits and how much I love them. I really really REALLY loved knitting this little sweater up. If you you are one of those people who hasn’t knit a sweater because it involves SO MUCH YARN (And also, who has that kind of attention span?), then baby sweaters are perfect for you.

Trellis
cute even when it’s not blocked

I also got all fancy with the editing of this photo. Finally. We won’t discuss how long it took me to accept that photoshopping a digital photo is not heinous and evil and inherently WRONG because I couldn’t get the color to represent properly because I lack seriously good lighting, mkay? (Run on sentence much?)

I accidentally made a design modification when I knit this sweater. Notice how my large cables are not so distinctly cable-y? Just more suggestive of a cable type thing? I’m pretty sure it’s because I sorta read the pattern a tad bit backwards when it came to the cables. I’m not sure than you can technically call it dyslexic, but it’s definitely left-handian (That is TOO a word. SHUT UP). Good thing I like it. And that Kate can’t read a knitting pattern. To me, it makes the sweater seem more girly. And this is a really good thing since Kate is having a girl. But the things that makes it the most girly is the buttons.

Trellistotally lickable buttons

I love them. And so did Kate. She loved the sweater and everything. It also helps that when this baby girl is around the 6 months of age mark, it will be sweater wearing weather time. Tres magnifique, no? And it might just be the one thing this little girl will wear before she turns 2 that is NOT pink.

And the other good thing? I get to take cross out yet another knit on my Mission Possible 2008 List.

A Crap Way to Avoid Work

Get worked in a week ahead?of when you’re supposed to visit your doctor?because you have missed your period, are having pregnancy symptoms,?are NOT PREGNANT (FOUR pee sticks confirmed this at?home, a 5th pee stick reconfirmed this at the doctor’s office)(And no, it was NOT my idea to take that many?tests, but sometimes you have to make your lover happy, you know?), major bloating (fun!), and?then throw in a dash of?pain?in your side that may or may not be an ovarian cyst or your appendix about to rupture.* Take your pick. Then? SIT IN THE WAITING ROOM OF YOUR DOCTOR’S OFFICE?FOR TWO HOURS.

Thank the gods I have a portable hobby. I managed to finish the last repeat of the leg and start on the heel of Monkey sock number two of two. I’m almost done with the heel flap now. See?

Monkey Sock

Now go eat some ice cream. You know you want to.

Oh, and before I forget, who names their kid Latrina? While I was sitting in the watiting room, someone named Latrina was overhead paged. I think a name like that is rather cruel and unusual. But kind of funny. So I just giggled to myself and kept knitting.

And no, I don’t know why I’m in pain or my body thinks I’m pregnant. Everything is normal as far as the girlie doctor can tell, but she ordered some blood work to cover all the bases.?So now I’m just waiting to hear as to whether or not my lab results are normal.?Or not. ?

But on the bright side? I really like my doctor so the wait was worth it.

*This really only works for girls unless you only have the possible appendicitis part.

Perfect!

Just not for me. It’s a little too small and likes to ride up my head creating a mushroom effect.

This is only staying on my head because of the pigtails

Even though this hat didn’t turn out big enough for me to wear, I still consider it a major success because I dyed the roving, spun up the yarn and knit up the hat. With my own handspun. And it took me less than a year to actually knit with my handspun. Oh, and this pattern? It is FUN! and super easy to memorize. And it took me?3 days to finish this. But there were interruptions, so I figure I could knit it in even less time sans distractions. Like laundry. Damn, that laundry is ALWAYS wanting attention. What is up with that?

Anyway, I think this hat will fit my little niece O perfectly, so I’ll be passing it along to her in the near future. I think she’ll like it.

And I do have some yarn left over. I just need to figure out what to do with it…
