Speed Knitting

I finally got the package Friday.

Dish Rag Tag Loot

B called me when he got home to tell me it was there. I opened it as soon as I got home and went through the box before starting on my dishcloth for Emily. That Ginger Crystallized in Dark Chocolate? I wasn’t sure how I would like it. Turns out? I love it. And that little plastic box? The coolest little organizer in the world. Lyn stuffed with stitch markers of all kinds and a darning needle. I LOVE IT. It is the coolest thing ever.

B liked the dishcloth and thought it looked like a fancy yarmulke and proceeded to put it on his head to demonstrate. It’s going to take some convincing to get him to actually use it as a washcloth, because he thinks it’s too pretty. And because he also knows what goes into knitting anything, he thinks it’s wrong to use something handmade for such a mundane use. I argued with him that it was all right to use a knitted dishcloth because it was made with a purpose and they don’t take long to knit, but I still don’t think I’ve convinced him it’s ok.

The Boy had a soccer game Friday night. I started my dishcloth before we left for the game. I knit on the way to the game. I knit on the dishcloth during his game. (I multi-tasked and watched him play as well. And score a goal!) I didn’t knit on the dishcloth on the way home because it was too dark, but we did stop at Michael’s after the game to pick up some yarn and treats to send to Emily. I knit when we got home. I did not go to bed until all the ends were woven in, the box was packed up and the label was printed.

I wish knitting burned calories like running does. If that were the case, I probably would have burned 3 days worth of heavy pasta meals knitting like I was. Oh well. A girl can dream.

Saturday morning, I got up and took that box to the post office and sent it off. I think Emily will get it today. Tomorrow at the latest.

So, because speed knitting a dishcloth wasn’t enough, I decided around 2:30 pm Saturday afternoon to knit an oxidization symbol to sew to a t-shirt to give to my friend Philip for his birthday at his party that night. Because, yes, I am crazy. But apparently capable. And we were only an hour and a half late to the party. I believe this is still considered fashionably late and we most certainly weren’t the last ones to arrive.

Sunday was such a gorgeous day, I couldn’t bear to spend it inside. So, B and I went to Alabama Adventure for the day. They’re running a special right now and you can get into both parks for $19 a person. There’s a water park and an amusement park. We decided to forgo the water park and proceeded to ride almost every ride in the amusement park.

You know what? I love roller coasters and any ride that will sling you around in multiple directions. I really do. But you know what else? When you’re at an amusement park and there are practically no lines and you get on every ride you walk up to right away with no periods of rest in between them? You can maybe get a little … less than well feeling. No one got sick, per se, but we left feeling a little dizzy and maybe a little queasy. But it was still fun. But we are maybe not so much the spring chickens we think we are.

So my word of caution to you? Go ride the rides on a day when there are more people there and you wait in line. It’s for your own safety.

I should have signed up for the dishrag thing…oh well! Next time.

  • I feel the same way about knitted things – even if it was made to be a dishcloth, I would have a hard time using it a. because it’s so pretty and b. because someone took the time to make it by hand.

Sounds like you had a great weekend – oh, and that t-shirt rocks!

(Those are some pretty snazzy boots in the first photo!)

I’m glad to see that b is ready for Yom Kippur Saturday.

“I wish knitting burned calories like running does.” this would totally get me to knit more – and be 800 times better for my gimpy leg.

  • Oooh! I love roller coasters!!! I also love anything that spins. Fast.

Funny story: My husband LOVES to ride roller coasters. What does he fear? The carousel. The tilt-a-whirl. The tea-cup rides. One of our first dates we went to a carnival and I convinced him to go on the tilt-a-whirl with me. He told me he’d get sick, and I laughed at how ridiculous that sounded. C’mon! It’s practically a kiddie ride! Well, he did get sick. All over the tilt-a-whirl. It’s pretty funny if you know my husband, Mr. Macho.

Don’t you just love getting stuff in the mail? I should sign up for more swaps. I’ve only done one and stressed out the entire time that the girl I was putting the package together for would hate everything I bought/made for her. Luckily, she said she liked it all.

  • That was a fast dishcloth. I wish I could knit with cotton, I’d have more dishcloths and they’d definitely get used.

So what time are you going to be here tomorrow? We’ll be down early…

  • I discovered the “no line” syndrome when we took the kids to Coney Island a few weeks back. Cyclone (roller coaster), Pirate Ship, and something that was akin to the Scrambler on crack all in a row without food? Baaaad. The only thing that would have been worse is if I had actually eaten before hand.
