Saturday, B and I went on a little road trip, and on our way home we stopped at Sheep to Shawl in Montevallo. I’d been informed by several fellow knitters that this is a great little shop. I was not disappointed. She had 4 different wheels and let me try them all out.
I think I have changed my mind about the kind of wheel I want. I now want a Louet. Either the S10 or the Victoria. I haven’t entirely made up my mind on that one, but I think I’m leaning a little more to the S10 because of price. However, if price wasn’t an issue, I’d probably go with the Victoria.
The shop owner, who was an absolutely delight, told me to check prices online and if she could match what I found, she would order it for me. If not, she told me to go ahead and buy it online and then bring it in to the shop and she’d help me put it together and get started on it. How awesome is that? Talk about quality customer service.
She also has looms and showed me how to use one of them. I’m not ready for that. Yet.
Oh! And she also has an angora bunny. I think we bonded a little over that. She sells her angora in the shop, too. The fiber, not the rabbit.
She carries a modest amount of yarn and roving, but all high quality stuff. I decided I needed some pencil roving. I was absolutely drawn to this roving in particular. It called to me. It said, “Take me home and make me yarn, bitch.”
So I did what I was told.

I use a louet. I tried all the other wheels at earthguild and liked that the best. Does sound like a great shop.
I am going to be in Birmingham next weekend. Want to try to meet up and knit in public?
I’m so glad you made it to Sheep To Shawl!!! What a great shop!!!! The owner makes the trip worth it!!!
Awesome.
Bookmarked.
Unheard of customer service! all shops should be like that!
Gorgeous Yarn! luuuuuuv it!
Love the yarn! I’ve never tried to spin my own yarn, but so many knitters do! Makes me think I should try it. I want an alpaca farm, though, so perhaps, someday, I’ll learn to spin around the time I learn to shear…yeah right! hahahaha! As much as I want alpacas (and the wool they bear), I live in suburbia. In an apartment. (Maybe I should start with an angora bunny?)
Love this shop! I’ve been a couple of times on Tuesday nights when they are open late for gatherings.
