Self-Inflicted

Yesterday I stayed home to take care of the Boy who had a very unhappy digestive tract. Everything was going south for the winter IN A HURRY. We’ll leave it at that.?He was all better by the afternoon, and we’re VERY glad for that.

While he was wearing a path between his bedroom and the bathroom, I was doing laundry and reading when I wasn’t checking in on him.

What I want to talk to you about is the book I was reading.

The story is all right. Nothing major, just some nice mindless elvish fantasy. What makes it pure torture to read is that apparently the PROOF READER WAS BLIND. I kid you not. Spelling and grammar mistakes a plenty. If I weren’t already so far into the book, I would start over with a red pen and correct the hell out of this thing. Then I’d send it to the publisher. No letter, no nothing. Just the book with all my corrections.

However, I’m sucked into the story now and I have to know how it ends. So I’ll read it to the end. Unfortunately, it’s Book One of a trilogy so I’m probably going to end up reading all 3 books. But I’ll be damned if I don’t mark up the second and third books to point out all the proofing errors.

Watch me get my red pen out and there won’t be any glaring mistakes in the next two books.

  • I always look for spelling errors and such in books; it?s like a lame hobby I never tell people about. I can’t believe some of the mistakes I have found throughout the years.

I love the idea about just sending the book in without any information with just red pen marks. That’s awesome.

Hopefully the next two books will be an improvement. :-)

  • Ohhh….sorry you were home caring for a sick little one…and bless his heart too!!!

Amazing that a publisher wouldn’t pick up on such obvious spelling errors!!

  • Oh, examples! Examples!!! : D
