My MIL is allergic to wool so I bought some gorgeous Sea Silk in Glacier to make her a shawl for Christmas. Since it’s starting to get close to that time of year, I thought I might need to get started on it. Last night I decided to wind it into a yarn cake. And I tried. I really really tried. The Sea Silk, however, had other plans.
Fucking hell. Yeah, so super soft and shiny? Not really agreeable to being wound into a yarn cake. Of course it doesn’t really help that the best way for me to do that right now is to use two tv trays. I need a table that my ball winder can clamp onto. The yarn snarl is much better tonight, but not quite unsnarled. Yet. *sigh*

That sucks! but I promise once you get that slickery stuff into a ball you’ll love knitting it.
Slippery yarn sucks. That sea silk is gorgeous, though!
OUCH….I hate it when that happens!! It is BEAUTIFUL yarn and will be so pretty as a shawl!! Lucky MIL!!!!!
So THAT”S why you were so distracted on the phone. But remarkably calm. I’d have been cursing and throwing things. Good luck!
My ball winder won’t clamp onto any of my tables either, so I absconded a marble trivet and clamped the ball winder onto that. It’s great- sits on my lap or the table, no problem.
I had a similar issue with Malabrigo lace and ended up winding it by hand. Think of the good thing – you’ll get to touch the yarn even more!
I had the same problem with some sock yarn with seacell in it. Gorgeous yarn, but a pain to wind.
Holy hell! I’d probably cry. But it DOES look pretty!!!!! Maybe you can just knit it off the swift?
I hate when Yarn Cakes explode! SO annoying!
