Scarfin’ It Southern Style

I do believe that is the lamest title I have ever come up with, although the alliteration is quite nice, no?

Anyway.

I finished another scarf for Zan’s. I like this scarf and I don’t like this scarf. Let me explain. I like this scarf because it’s from scraps of yarn and it’s bulky weight and it was a pretty quick knit. I don’t like this scarf because it’s bulky weight yarn and I decided to do a lace motif (cast on 20 stitches; row 1: k1 *yo k2tog to end; row 2: k; rinse; repeat; bind off). The k2tog really started to do me in as the scarf got longer and so now I have a pain in my right hand. Literally. Not in the wrist, but in the back of my hand. I’m thinking possible tendonitis, probably not carpal tunnel, but either way it means I need to lay off knitting for awhile. That’s the part that I don’t like, but if it means not knitting for a few days or a week or two, that’s better than not knitting at all. (I wonder if this would be a good time to try the spinning again?)

Last night as I was finished this scarf up, Little Man was my official Holder of the Yarn. We were discussing the scarf and the fact that it needed to be blocked. He, of course, wanted to help. I told him I would need more pins to block the scarf. Either that, or to get some blocking wires. He asked me what blocking wires were and I explained what they were and what they did. He then proceeded to inform me that I needed to get some blocking wires. Smart kid, that one. I like the way he thinks.

He also asked me several times last night to show him how to knit, but then I think he got a little scared to try so he backed out, but it’s just a matter of time, really. He’s already developed a healthy love for yarn. Good yarn, too. He wants his own set of dpns. He wishes he could have my swift and ball winder. He likes going to the LYS. Soon. Soon.

In other news, my friend Derek is DA MAN. Wanna know why? I’ll tell you why. He printed these up for me:

They’re so nice. Already have a hole punched in them. Matte paper. And, I can write any pertinent information on the back of them because the paper is absorbent. How awesome is that? Derek’s the best. My cost? A cup of coffee AND I got to hog Derek’s attention for an hour catching up with him. The way I see it, it was a win-win situation for me. Good times. Good friend.

  • What a good friend to make you Grace Knits paper!!

We have a little boy in our knitting group that just learned to knit…I believe he is 9 or 10? I say take Little Man to Michael’s, let him pick out his own “sticks”, a ball of yarn and get him started!!
