Pictures as Promised

LeftoverThis is what was left over. I ended up not taking pictures of what April kept, but it looked a lot like this, but with some other stuff thrown in and around and about. Helpful, huh?

Lots of thread, lots of bobbins, a little bit of lace and a teaspoon of sugar to help the medicine go down. Oh yeah, and pinking shears. Some elastic. I’m telling you, my granda was a pack rat. I did not inherit this trait. Though, come to think of it, it might not be a bad idea to hang onto this stuff.

KeepThese are the things I decided to keep. Empty wooden thread spools. I don’t have a clue as to what I’ll do with empty wooden thread spools, but I just think they are so cool so I don’t want to throw them away.  I mostly decided to keep the needles and pins scissors and that nifty puncher thing. The copper looking thing. I think it’s for grommets and whatnots. It’s pretty nifty. Grandma kept the little backing board it came on because it has instructions on there. That’s pretty cool.

PincushionMy grandma was pretty crafty. She sewed quite a bit and she was a bad ass crocheter. She made afghans all the time. I still have the one she made me. I’m pretty sure she made this thing. It’s a pincushion with a porcelain (I think) doll head. The "body" of the pincushion vaguely resembles a doll body. Kinda. It freaks me out a little because I think dolls are creepy, but at the same time, it’s kinda cool because my grandma made it. I have no idea exactly how the doll head is attached and I’m not about to decapitate it to find out.

Closedbox_1This is probably my favorite thing I’m keeping. It’s just a little wooden box, but I’ve never seen a box like this in my entire life. I have no idea what she used it for, other than to store random stuff in it. I can’t read the little embossed "label" on the top of the box because it’s so old and worn and parts of letters are missing. But the coolest thing about this box is how it opens.

OpenboxHow cool is this?! It rolls out to lay flat and it’s lined with blue velvet and has all these metal things attached on the inside. They have numbers etched on them, but I have no idea what they mean or for what they might have been used! It’s so cool! I mean, have you ever seen anything like this?
