Not so Much with the Summer of Yarn

I?ve been walking around most of the summer with either one or two projects in my purse and mostly not knitting on them. I haven?t really touched my wheel in quite some time either. And while I still peruse the patterns online, especially on Ravelry, I just haven?t been inclined to knit. I think it started with the giant tangle of doom with the FBS and then I had a short bout with carpal tunnel and now I?m more inclined to do other things rather than knit.

I?m sure it?s the heat that is affecting my decision more than anything. But I think my dry spell is about to come to an end as I picked up the FBS yesterday and worked a row during the last few minutes of my lunch break. I love the feel of the Brooks Farm Acero yarn. It is absolutely delicious and sproingy and I would like to roll around naked in a giant pile of it. That feeling certainly encourages one to want to knit.

Also, I need to find some laceweight yarn that is wool free. I?m thinking that a silk lace-friendly yarn would be great for my MIL as she is allergic to wool. At least, I think she is. She told me it makes her itchy. I think the current 100% mohair Kiri shawl will go to someone else is in my family, I just haven?t decided who yet, but definitely someone who isn?t allergic to mohair.

Any suggestions on 100% silk yarn that is excellent for lace knitting?

  • Fiddlesticks is having a sale on silk yarn right now that is supposed to be pretty good for lace (I’ve never used it personally)

And Colourmart (which I have used) has beautiful silk lace yarn.

I’ll do anything to enable others!

  • I love the Seasilk. It’s so yummy. And, you could use a linen laceweight. It’s not supposed to be the nicest to knit with but it definitely gets better with use and washing.

What’s FBS? Flower Basket shawl? For better stuff? I just got back from Montana and I think my internal clock is all screwed up.

  • We all go through those dry spells. It hurts at times, but I think it’s needed to rejuvenate or something.

As far as non wool lace weight – 3 words Handmaiden Sea Silk. Oh my goodness I love this stuff! I would freely give my first born for just a couple of skeins. It’s so much fun to knit with. It’s hard to explain but the closest I’ve come is orgasmic. It’s like little mini finger orgasms that just keep happening. Yes, that good :)

  • Silk yarn?

Claudia Handpainted Silk is lovely, as is Schaefer Andrea.

Less pricey and not really silk: Conjoined Creations Soysilk.

    All lovely.

Hope to see you at SAFF!

  • With the weather we have had it is just so hard to get motivated to knit much of anything!!! I am SOOOOO looking forward to Fall!!!!!!!!!!
