Remember how I said I was working on something but it was a secret? No? Don’t worry about it if you don’t, but if you do remember, this is what I was talking about. I wasn’t sure if it was going to happen or not, but it did.
Scott created this fair isle design and last night I knitted the swatch. I used bulky weight wool to do this swatch, so it is fairly large. I could definitely see this on a sweater or maybe on a hat in worsted weight. Really, the possibilities are endless. But this particular swatch? It’s getting framed.
Also? Can I just say? SCOTT IS A GENIUS. I showed him a couple of fair isle charts and then he came up with no less than EIGHT DESIGNS and all of them are AMAZING. I’ll be using them ALL.
I scanned it so the color would be a little more true to life and the detail would be a lot better. I use my camera phone to take all my pictures and forget that sometimes scanning is a good thing.
Yarn: Lamb’s Pride Bulky
Colors: Deep Charcoal and Prairie Fire
Needles: size 10
Gauge: I have no idea. The entire swatch is 29 stitches across and 29 rows tall
Let me just tell you something. I LOVE FAIR ISLE KNITTING. There is practically NO WEAVING IN OF ENDS. HALLELUJAH! I love seeing the pattern form. I love it. Also? I still pulled the yarn a little too tight across the back. I realize now that when it seems like it’s just a little too loose in the back, that’s probably when it’s perfect. The edges curl just a tad bit more than I would like. Still, for my first attempt at fair isle, I think it’s pretty damn good. What say you?

Dude, you take all your pics with a camera phone? They look amazing. My phone can’t take a picture for stuff. Love the fair isle
The fair isle kicks ass!
