I finished the second sock last night. I am wearing them today. The first sock is a little bit more loose than the second sock. OK, a lot more loose, but they are FINISHED. I am not knitting the first one again. I think I might need to get some size 1 or size 0 needles for making socks. I knit these with size 2 needles and they are both a little loose. Will some of that go away after washing them? Guess I’ll find out. Also, do you get used to feeling the reverse stockinette? Will it feel better after a washing? They are so warm! And now, a special message from Amish Sock:
Look at me in all my glory! And now that I have my mate, I don’t feel so evil anymore. Hhhhmmmm, being a pair seems to have mellowed me out. I used to think that nothing would make me happier than world domination, but now that I am not only complete, but have found my sockmate, world domination doesn’t seem so important anymore. Look at what a handsome pair we are! Don’t you just want to wear us? You do! You know it! Don’t try to deny your attraction to us. It is futile. Now, bask in our finished glory. I COMMAND YOU!

I haven’t finished a pair out of Shepherd Sock (yet), but every other pair of socks I’ve made has softened up enough after washing that you don’t feel the bumpy reverse stockinette under your feet.
I’ve also seen people purl the sole of the sock so they’re actually standing on the knit side of the stockinette. Haven’t tried that myself yet, but I keep meaning to.
