Little Pieces of Crazy (In Which “Normal” Is the New Crazy)

Have you ever noticed how changing one small thing can sometimes make a huge difference?

For instance, when sleeping on the couch night after night (because you 1. desparately need to wash the sheets but haven’t for an undisclosed amount of time and 2. have no air conditioning in your bedroom, just a measly ceiling fan that only serves to circulate hot air over your person when you are trying to sleep), sometimes it helps to swap which end of the couch your head is positioned to even out the kinks in your back. Your headache goes away and your back feels like it might be back in alignment.

Or, you actually go to bed at a reasonably decent hour and get up and run in the morning instead of trying to cram it in at the end of the day when you’re really tired and cranky and maybe shouldn’t be out in public where you can scream obscenities at innocent bystanders. Life is prettier when you run. You feel better and you’re less likely to start looking like the Michelin Man from lack of exercise (and when I say "you" I really mean "me"). When you run in the morning you don’t have to use your inhaler. It’s also not so obliteratingly hot and you don’t run the risk of literally melting onto the pavement.

Or, when you’re knitting a heel, you pay attention to detail and what it is you’re doing and you manage to create a heel that doesn’t (currently) have any glaring mistakes or holes. I think maybe I didn’t like the heel flap method before because I might not have been doing it right. Specifically, the picking up the stitches part. I really don’t want to talk about my glaring misunderstanding as a newbie the intricacies (or rather lack thereof) of picking up stitches. We will also not talk about my recent brainfart about the proper way to SSK. Instead, I will distract you with a pretty picture of this here heel:

Dscf0981oooh….pretty!

It’s these little things that make all the difference in the world and might even lead a more well-adjusted person. This concludes today’s Public Service Announcement. You may not return to your regularly scheduled programming. [And for my Saudi friends who read this: We regret to inform you that it is now time for the Magreb prayer in the Riyadh area.]

    Pretty heel!

Damn, prayer time…is this the big Prayer Time with the shots of the Ka’aba, or is this a minor one with just blue screen and announcements around the compound?

  • I think it’s the big one. They always said it on the Saudi Channel. You know, the one with the Jamal the Camel show.

  • Heel looks GREAT…..so much neater than I do!! Every time I “pick up stitches” along the side I always think I am doing something wrong….never looks as neat as some of the “sock diva’s” I see…..Hmmm….maybe more than one way to turn a heel?

The previous comment was brought by the aforementioned michelin man from Grace’s commentary!! LOL!!!
