So Little Man asked for a knitting video to learn how to knit as he was struggling with my instructions. For Christmas, I got him a knitting video (Hobby Lobby), Kid’s size 15 knitting needles that are two different colors (Hobby Lobby), and some yarn that is 100% virgin wool from Uruguay in a white/light green/light blue colorway, probably Manos, but I don’t remember for sure (Knit Nouveau). He got to open it on Christmas Eve Eve.
After watching the video some, and working with him, Little Man was knitting. It was so cool. I was thrilled, he was quite impressed with himself and B’s pretty sure I’ve created a monster. Little Man would knit a few stitches and then go and play his Nintendo DS. Back and forth. I think he couldn’t make up his mind which was more fun, so he kept doing both.
Christmas Eve, Little Man took his knitting with him everywhere. On the way to Gran’s we had to make a stop at his Great-grandmother’s. When he got back in the car, he said something to the effect of, “Now I can knit again!” with an air of relief. It was too cute. There were comments like that all night long. He’s totally come over to the woolly side. I’ll try to remember to take a picture of his progress.

As you can see, I’ve been spinning. A lot. When I went to get yarn for Little Man, I maybe picked up a Louet spindle for myself. The lovely spindle in my banner is really pretty, but not all that great for spinning. I think it’s a little too light for me just yet, but mostly it makes this irritating noise when it’s spinning. The two stone whorls rub against one another. it kinda makes my skin crawl a little. Anyway, the Louet spindle is perfect.

My first go around, I produced a bulky-weight yarn. My second attempt has produced a worsted weight yarn. As you can see, I was quite busy all weekend long spinning like no tomorrow. I’ll finish up the last of the roving tonight and then probably set the twist. I don’t think I’m going to ply this yarn.
I am totally enamored with spindling. It goes a lot faster now that I have a spindle I like and can handle properly. In the course of 5 days, I have spun almost a half pound of roving. I’ve got 2.5 lbs left. I might take a short break to finish a sock and maybe whip up another pair of gloves before I get started on the rest of the roving. Then again, I might not.

isn’t it fun to see how the colors change when you go from roving to yarn? Your spinning looks great – keep it up! It’s all about practicing…
