Have I ever mentioned that I suffer from perfectionist tendencies? Or that sometimes I can be incredibly, stupidly stubborn? Or that I prefer to cast on and knit one row of a project, rip it and then repeat this process a minimum of at least 8 times? Have I? Probably. Well, that is what I spent my time doing last night. In my defense, I’m a little bit of an idiot at times, especially after drinking alcoholic beverages (It only takes one drink for me. Lightweight that I am.). Anyway, the pattern calls for you to cast on 148 stitches. Now, if you follow the pattern exactly and intend to make it into a man-cardigan with the zipper front, this works perfectly. However, if you choose to change the pattern as I am prone to do, then it does not work so well with the k4, p4 pattern. You know why? because you end up with k8 when you join the sweater to knit it in the round. Somehow, I thought I could fool the pattern and you know what? I COULDN’T. I even tried starting with k2 and then breaking into the pattern. You know what? I still ended up with k8 at the end. So guess what? I think it only took me knitting the first row 4 times to figure this out. So tonight, I will cast on 152 stitches instead of 148. This way, there will be no k8 when they join. It will be k4, p4 as God, and I, intended.
Also, I find that the more times I start and rip a project, the better I am at getting my stitches to be more even. This is especially handy when working with a new yarn. Such as I am doing. I’ve certainly gotten a good feel for Big Kureyon and I think we are going to get along splendidly.
PS>Vicki, Toby is still alive and well, but also still in the doghouse, figuratively speaking!
