Katrina

I don’t normally post about this kind of stuff because I am like Switzerland, always neutral about politics, war and natural disaster. It’s just my nature.

However, the devastation that Katrina caused…..you just watch the news and think, "surely this isn’t really happening. This is just some ploy of the news media to generate ratings." Alas it is not, and the feelings of helplessness that my friends and I have is thoroughly frustrating. We all want to be able to do something to help those who are in worse shape than we are, but we are limited by time and/or resources. I have decided to contact the Red Cross and see about donating blood. It’s one thing I know I can do that can help make a difference.

As for me, I am fine. Lucky. Blessed. Whatever you want to call it. What passed through Birmingham was a tropical storm which is no more damaging than a really bad thunderstorm here. We had quite a few trees come down, and a good number of people are without power, but I am not one of them, thankfully. Birmingham is pretty much in the middle of the state. The damage we’ve suffered in Birmingham is almost inconsequential compared to what has happened to Louisiana and Mississippi and lower Alabama.

Here are pictures of proof that Bear and I are OK:

Bear_1 I find this picture somewhat amusing since Bear is in fact MUCH bigger than my leg, but he looks small here and my leg looks HUGE.

Me2_1 Here I am in my favorite t-shirt (yes, it says BOTOX) with my electricity on, my fan going and the a/c running.

Me5_1 Scott and I went to hear the Red Sparowes last night. Zombie opened for them. The drummer of Zombie was amazing. Two instrumental bands back to back with complimentary sounds, not bad, but sometimes vocals are nice too. All in all, a nice way to spend the evening avoiding packing.
