I am a fan of the short row heel/toe. I just like it. However, what I don’t like are the larger than preferred "holes" that show up on only one side of the heel/toe. And it’s always with the SSSK. I think I finally figured out why, though. My tension is certainly different from knit to purl and I am also left-handed (TANGENT: I’m not sure if left-handedness has anything to do with it, but I’m inordinately and inexplicably pleased by the fact that I am not a one-of-the-masses-boring-right-hander. Life is spicier when you’re left-handed because you’re always having to figure out how to make things work for you. END TANGENT).
Anyway, left-handed tangent aside, I think I know what’s causing the less than stellar issue. In the directions for the SSSK, it says to turn the stitches the correct way prior to SSSK. When I do this, I get the big "holes." (TANGENT: Maybe I should refer to them as extra-large spaces. They’re not technically holes. END TANGENT) ANYWAY, TANGENT ASIDE, when I leave them twisted on the needle, I don’t seem to have the larger-than-average-space anymore. This is good, no?
I’d like to think that I have fairly "normal" tension with the knitting. I’m not an extremely tight knitter. I can usually go with the recommended needle size and my gauge (when I check it) is usually spot-on. I’m just wondering, is it just me or does this happen to anyone else?
