Don’t you hate it when someone only hears part of your conversation and jumps in like they know what you and they are talking about? I do, but it usually makes for a really good story. Like right about now.
So, I went to this very fun birthday party for some friends of mine. After the party, we went to another person’s house to continue in the festivities. I was talking to a guy from Germany who works at the Mercedes plant and along the course of the conversation, he asked where I grew up. Now, we had already established my heritage (Korean and Caucasian), so I told him I grew up in Saudi Arabia.
This is where another person butted in to our conversation and says to me, "That’s so great that you got free."
I was too confused to be offended by such a stupid statement. I mean, it took me a second to realize she was talking to me, and then once I processed what she said, I had no idea what she was talking about.
Turns out, her ex-boyfriend was from Saudi Arabia. I stopped her from explaining further and explained to her that I am not an arab, but an ex-patriot who grew up in a foreign country. It’s a completely different thing.
However, "That’s so great that you got free." is now my favorite stupid thing anyone has ever said to me.
Anyway, wanna see some pictures from the party? I thought so.

Yeah cause you look so… Arabic?
That’s OK. I was mistaken as Iranian at one point because I had a beard.
