The last time I went to see my friendly neighborhood vampires I wore my Knit Drink Tink shirt I got at Knitch when Julie came down south and went to SAFF with ESC and me. At least, I think that’s when I bought it. But I digress. Wearing the shirt is the more important part of this story because my infertility nurse saw, asked me to explain it and then asked me to teach her to knit. Just like that.
So of course I said yes!
Heh. If you skipped over that first paragraph and only read that sentence, I’m pretty sure you’d do a double take and then go back and read the first paragraph. (Also? In case you can’t tell, I’m a little scatter brained, which is what happens when I drink caffeine at night besides the fact that I’m awake and have more energy than I know what to do with, but now I’m getting ahead of myself and I’ll get back to that later. Are you confused now? Because I’m a little confused. Ending this tangent…NOW.)
ANYWAY. I told her I’d be happy to teach her to knit. But first, I gave her homework. And this is where I am either an evil genius and/or the greatest enabler on the planet. I told her that before I could teach her to knit, she had to go to In the Making, my local yarn shop and buy one ball of yarn and a pair of needles. Because we all know that unless you have the proper tools for the trade, you are not going to succeed. She was a very good student and went to the LYS and bought yarn and needles.
We met today at Barnes & Noble. We got some coffee and sat down to knit.
OK. Really quickly, this is where I ordered an iced sugar free caramel macchiato and forgot to say decaf. Hence all the random tangents and why I’m up past my bedtime.
Back to the topic at hand.
Internets, this woman took to knitting like a fish takes to water. She learned to tie a slip knot, do a long tail cast on and knit continental style in an hour – hour and a half, tops. The majority of the time was spent with her knitting and me encouraging her because she was just terrified that she would forget everything I showed her once she got home. I have a feeling that she went home, maybe fed her family and continued to knit. She’s probably still knitting right now.
I also lent her my Stitch ‘n Bitch book in case she forgot something or drops a stitch. She only dropped a stitch once at the very beginning knitting the cast on row. She ripped it back and started over and despite being worried she couldn’t remember how to cast on, did it perfectly. Also? her stitches were so much more even than mine ever were the first time I knit. I was a little jealous, but mostly extremely proud of her.
I even tried to get her to go to knit night with me when we were done, but she had to get home, but said she wanted to come to the next one. I really think she might be hooked on knitting.
So I went on to knit night, had a fantastic time (as usual) and may have spent the money my uncle gave me to buy myself a shirt on sock yarn. Which, really, when you think about it, yarn is just clothing that hasn’t been made yet. Right?
I may very well be the last person on the planet who has not knit (yet!) with Malabrigo yarn, but that is going to change very very soon. Also, apparently the Zauberball has also been around for awhile but I only just discovered them tonight. Either that, or I saw it one someone’s blog once, couldn’t find it locally and promptly forgot about it in my angst at not finding it when I looked for it before. But I don’t remember. So it’s new to me!

[New Post] I Am A Knitter, Hear Me Roar http://littledramapants.com/?p=4504
I love lyrics post titles.
Yes, I am wise but it’s wisdom for the pain.
Yes, I’ve paid the price but look how much I’ve gained.
If I have too, I can do anything.
I am strong. I am invincible. I am awesome!
Don’t make a sweater with malabrigo. Stuff pills like a BITCH. But it’s super soft!! LOVE!
Sounds like a natural knitter.
Love those Zauberballs. I’ve got one or two somewhere, but they’re packed up. ::bitch,moan:: I can’t wait to see all my yarn again.
