How LMDP got her (knitting) groove back

Thursday I suddenly developed an itch to knit some lace. Specifically the Flower Basket Shawl using my Brooks Farm Acero yarn that I got at SAFF about two years ago. I?m pretty sure it had something to do with seeing Jen?s shawl that she knit in some Brooks Farm Acero.

I haven?t really had any great desire to knit lately. Partly because it?s summer and hot and the thought of touching wool seems unbearably hot and partly because nothing has really caught my attention or desire. Until now. In the last three days, I have knit almost the entire shawl. I?m on the 6th repeat and possibly would have been knitting the edging last night if I hadn?t spent the better part of it trying to untangle my yarn.

A word about the Brooks Farm Acero: HOLY CRAP THERE IS A LOT OF YARN IN ONE SKEIN. I wound that sucker up, but it wasn?t easy and apparently I didn?t do as good of a job as I thought. If I had? I probably wouldn?t be battling the tangle monster now.

I finally went to bed around 1:00 a.m. last night, defeated. I?m going to give it another go tonight and if I can?t get the bloody mess untangled, then I?m cutting it. It gives me no real pleasure to say that and I hope it doesn’t come down to that. But drastic times call for drastic measures.

Wish me luck.

  • Oh I hate it when this happens, sometimes there is no choice but to cut. Hope you have a more successful evening

  • Damn you, tangle monsterrrrrrrrrr!

I’m kickin’ its ass right now.

  • Ugh, that sucks. Isn’t the Acero fabulous to knit with, though?

  • The same thing happened with my Acero and it stayed a tangled mess for awhile until I felt really generous and untangled it. Don’t cut it. You don’t want ends in the middle of your lace shawl!

  • I bought a hank of yarn online a year ago and have yet to untangle the mess. It is 1000 plus yards of LACE weight yarn. Someday I’ll untangle and make the greatest lace shawl ever…someday, damn it…

I’ve started knitting again, too. I’m working on a baby blanket I started for Maggie–when she was still in my belly. In October. Of last year. Good news is, though, I’ve two thirds the way through. Whoopee! :) I’m going to make some socks next, I think.

Just stumbled upon your blog. I haven’t knitted very much recently either. Still working on the sweater of doom…

    Good luck!
