Hate Christmas?

I was trying to think of something good to do to get into the mood for Christmas besides letting the air out of the tires of all the people who go a little nuts with the mall shopping, and then I remembered the Christmases that we spent with my Grandma when we’d come to the States.

I’ve modified it a little bit since the only alcohol I ever received from my Grandma as a kid was in the brandied fruit in her homemade fruitcake. And while, in general I am not a fan of fruitcake, there was one particular year when her fruitcake was probably my favorite.

Anyway, to get into the festive spirit for the holidays, my suggestion is to do this:

1. Invite several friends over that like to do silly things, crafty things, eat and drink.

1. Get the solid colored glass ball decorations. Doesn’t matter what colors.

2. Get glitter in every possible color. And maybe some sequins. Hell, go a little wild and get some ribbon while you’re at it.

3. Get some glue. Elmer’s is my preference, but really just any glue you can squeeze out and make thin lines on the ball(s).

4. Invite friends over. Have them bring their own glass balls (optional).

5. Have wine and snack foods. Everyone should contribute to this.

6. Begin drinking.

7. Create fancy patterns on the balls with the glue.

8. Drink some more.

9. Roll them in the glitter/sequins. Or wrap the ribbon around them.

10. Maybe have a snack and another drink to wash it down.

11. Rinse and repeat until all the balls are glitterized. Also, drink.

12. Give the balls an hour or so to dry.

13. Make sure you’re good and drunk.

14. Hang the balls on your tree and try not to knock the tree over as you are holding on to one another to stay upright.

15. Enjoy!
