In the car on the way home from the pet store last night:
“I can’t wait to get home and use the niddy noddy.”
“I’ll be on the couch feigning disinterest*.”
Instead of getting one long piece of pvc, I found that there was grey outdoor pvc for sprinkler pipes that are already threaded and in small sizes. Strangely enough, there were no 18″ pipes. Is no one in Home Depot aware of the need for 18″ pipes so poor spinners can make a pvc niddy noddy? For shame, Home Depot. I bet Lowes would have had the 18″ pvc pipe. However, since I am lazy, my options were to get either a 12″ pipe or a 24″ pipe for the body. Luckily, there was grey pvc pipe already cut down to 6″. I opted for a grey 24″ pipe for the body, 4 grey 6″ pipes for the arms, and then went back over to the white pvc and got the T connector pieces and end caps.
I used a pvc friendly superglue to adhere the end caps to the 6″ pipe as well as to get the pipe to stay in the connector thingie (I am all about technical terms). The grey pipe was all threaded. However, not all the connector thingies were threaded. Just the part where the 24″ pipe went. I screwed those in and I glued everything else in place. I’m pretty sure these directions are convoluted and confusing. If so, then my work here is done and you should consult these plans here.
I thought I was being fairly clever when I was in Home Depot and opted for the 24″ pipe. Well, guess what? 18″ pipe is better than 24″ pipe because when trying to wind the ultimately 48″ hank of yarn, it tends to get tangled into an ungodly mess on the floor as it won’t fit on the yarn swift. I imagine sometime in the near future I’ll be (read: B will be) cutting down the 24″ pipe to become 18″. But overall, I’m highly pleased with my homemade niddy noddy that cost a whopping $4.31.
Of the pink/black/white roving, I have approximately 96 yards of yarn drying in the bathroom right now. I still have more roving to spin so I don’t know what the total yardage from that half pound of roving will be just yet.
The dark pink/black/dark green roving spun up for a total of 122 yards. I have 3 balls of it. *While B feigned disinterest, I maybe snarled this yarn into a clusterfuck beyond all recognition of a hank. B took pity on me and spent the rest of the evening helping me untangle it and wrap it around the niddy noddy to figure out its yardage. He gave up precious videogaming time to do this. He also totally blew his cover of feigned disinterest. He’s such a great guy.

Not confusing at all, but then I do all my own plumbing work, and electrical, and carpentry, and painting, and…
(. )( .)
shhh…
I think it’s a little late for that, baby.
