So I had this grand idea about how I was going to make this really kick ass scarf with some off-white suri merino alpaca yarn and some blue mohair lace weight yarn and it was going to be beeeyyyyuuuutiiiifuuuul.
Yeah, not so much.
The plan was to make the body of the scarf out of the suri merino alpaca yarn, and then make panels of lace with the blue mohair yarn. What didn’t occur to me was that this is basically in(re)tar(d)sia. Lots of little yarns hanging off all over the place. And I’m starting to rethink this. I’m starting to think it might be a bad idea.
Also? I can’t count.
I cast on for this baby last night (to make matters more difficult, my little kitten decided that attacking t he needles was the best game ever. EVER.) and started knitting away. I decided to go with seed stitch for the "body" of the scarf and then I was going to have 4 stitches of the off-white on either side of the Panel of Lace. I knit the first four stitches, then started in on row 1 of the Panel of Lace. I came up two stitches short for the ending 4 stitches of off-white. This leads me to believe that 1. I can’t count and 2. I can’t count.
Not having my contacts in, battling the kitten and trying to figure out what in the hell I was doing kind of made it difficult also. Anyway, by the time I got to the end of Row 1, I realized my count was off somewhere, it was possible that I had done the row incorrectly and Holy Shit! I’m going to have to do this as intarsia and cut the yarn! I don’t know why this didn’t occur to me previously. However, given that I will need to BLOCK the scarf because of the LACE parts, I don’t think it’ll hold up as well as I would like as a SCARF. Damn.
Needless to say, I will be coming up with something else to do with these yarns, but I will knit them together, damnit. And it will be beautiful. Beeeyuuuutiiiifuuuuul.

Knitting sounds WAY too complicated for me.
right
Why don’t you knit a dropped stitch scarf? Carry the mohair up the side of the scarf and when you want a change, knit a row with the mohair, do a bunch of YOs and then drop ‘em. You’ll have to do some type of finish with the mohair to make the other side match, but I think it’d be pretty. I plan to do it…someday…when I’m done with these damn hats! Disclaimer: this may not work as well in reality as it does in my head.
Ahhh, that explains why you came to my house to knit last night….no kitties.
