Distaff Day & FO, Except in The Exact Opposite Order

[Warning!] Long content, heavy fiber/knitting content and a shit-ton of pictures. [/Warning!]

First of all, I have to squeeSQUEEsquee that:

I FINISHED MY CPH!!!!!!

Thanks for bearing with me on that. I cannot express enough love for this cardigan. It’s technically not a hoodie since I, you know, didn’t knit the hood. I could not love this cardigan more and I owe a big thank you to Tonni for most of the pictures that were taken of the CPC. Also! While I did finish it in time to wear to Distaff Day at Elizabeth’s house, I didn’t actually put the buttons on until after I got home.

Also, I didn’t ever stop to take a bath Saturday as I worked on finishing the sweater from the moment I got up until I went to bed after 12:30 Saturday night. I made B set the alarm for Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m. and I did take a shower then and then continued to work on the CPC until 10 minutes til 1 p.m. I was a little late getting to the party, but that’s ok because I wasn’t the last one and I showed up with a finished CPC!!!

And Tonni was a complete dear and gave me some sock yarn and wine. I need to take pictures of them to show you. I want to totally cast aside all the projects I’m working on to now knit some socks out of this yarn, it is that yummy.

[Complete Aside]Also, where in the hell did my boobs come from? Are they really that big? DAMN! Just call me Boobs McGee from now on. (Bob, I’m sure you have no problem with the, uh, with them.) Ahem.[/Complete Aside]?

Anyway, without further ado, PICTURES!

Ignore the incredibly stupid look on my face and focus on the BUTTONS!

Pattern:Central Park Hoodie
Yarn:?Suri Merino by Indecieta (Plymouth Yarn); Red 2055 and Charcoal 402
Modifications:

  1. Well, obviously I knit the sweater in two colors instead of one. I used a new ball for every color change. It was a little fiddly having to untangle the balls every cable repeat, BUT it was worth it in the end instead of having to weave in millions of ends OR having to be concerned with floats. I had minimal finishing in the end, all things considered. Totally worth the headache in the long run and it really wasn’t that bad in process.
  2. I left off the hood because pretty much every jacket I own has a hood on it, so I thought it might be novel to make something different. Crazy, I know. When I picked up the stitches for the button band and around the collar, I picked up WAY more stitches than the pattern called for. In fact, I’m going to tell you a little secret. on the left front I had a total of 167 stitches on the needles. I knit the last 2 together (at the top of the collar) to bring the number down to 166 which is pretty essential since I was knitting k2p2 ribbing. On the right side, I ended up picking up 177 stitches. I’m not sure how that happened, but I really didn’t care. I k2tog at the neck again where I would seam up the collar to keep my numbers even. I ended up seaming a knit row to a purl row on the collar, but you all said and done, you can’t really tell and also my hair hides it, so I didn’t sweat it. I knit 12 rows on both sides for the button band, making my button band about 2″ instead of 1.5″ which was also fine by me since I used large buttons.

Buttons that I love so much, I fondle them more than what is probably considered healthy, but I don’t care. Don’t judge my button love! We know you’re just jealous.

*Ahem*

So, let’s move on shall we?

Distaff Day!

Elizabeth?was an incredibly generous hostess and not only opened up her home to?eight spinners and their wheels, but also had an AMAZING spread of food for all of us too. And most everyone brought?a little something as well, so we were well stocked in the food and wine department.?Also, did I mention there were NINE spinners in Elizabeth’s house? With wheels? It was crazy but we all managed to fit in two adjoining room. And Elizabeth did a lot of furniture rearranging, but it worked out beautifully. Thanks a million Ebeth! I’d say Distaff Day was a huge success and I think we should definitely do it once a month and I think it would be only fair to rotate houses. I’d be glad to have the next one at my house if anyone is interested!

Distaff Day Attendees:

We had a terrific time and there was a lot of talk about bobbins and orifices and there was some bobbin envy (some of the girls had bobbins that were THIS! BIG!) and amazing camaraderie with folks who had either met once or twice before in real life or never have met at all. It was fantastic! I’ll show you some high light pictures, but you can see the rest of the pictures here.

I think it’s pretty obvious that you didn’t knit that cardigan. It is very evident that in fact your BOOBS knit it. I dare you to refute my claims.
