Today I wanted to do something different and challenge myself. So I decided to try my hand at spinning art yarn. Y’all, making art yarn is hard. And I was just kind of winging it. It, um, it could have gone better but I’m going to be content with having tried it.
I used an unidentified wool (bfl? corriedale? I lost the band), dyed locks (Wensleydale and something else) and sari silk. I just spun the sari silk and locks into the wool. Some of the locks were really matted up so I used my flick brush to untangle them. I tried using my combs to create a kind of mini batt with the locks and sari silk. That didn’t go as well as I would have liked. Today was all about learning and mostly I learned that I have a lot to learn when it comes to art yarn. [Side note: I really need to do a better job of keeping track of what I have. /side note]
Part of my problem is that I’m a perfectionist and I don’t think that works really well with this technique. So the next time I attempt this, I’ll try making a batt first. Maybe that will help.
