Bring on the Weird

OK, so Stick and Stacey both tagged me, Stick for 8 and Stacey for 7 random facts/habits. I’m not sure if I can even come up with more than 3 so we’ll just see how this goes.

The Rules:
1. Each player starts with 7 – 8 random facts/habits about themselves.

2. People who are tagged write a blog post about their own 7 – 8 random things and post these rules.

3. At the end of your blog you need to tag 7 – 8 people and post their names.

4. Don?t forget to leave them a comment and tell them they?re tagged, and to read your blog.

Hrm….I’m not going to tag anyone, but I’ll open it up to anyone who wants to do this. OK, so here goes…

1. I study my food before I put it in my mouth. As in, I watch it until it gets to my mouth. Every bite. I believe this started in the 6th grade. Our school didn’t have a cafeteria where you sat down to eat, you just went through and got your food. We ate lunch in the courtyard at picnic tables. I’d always look before I’d put my food in my mouth because I didn’t want to inadvertently eat a bug. I don’t even notice that I’m doing it anymore, but my friends will still occasionally call me out on it.

2. When I was in middle school, my dad turned me on to science fiction literature. After devouring quite a few sci fi books, I would play a game (by myself and mostly in my head) that consisted of me “exploring” the house and pretending I was from another century (past) or from another world (future).

3. When I shower, I have to wash in this particular order: face, shampoo, conditioner, shave (not a daily occurrence), body. Otherwise, I forget what I’ve done. What? I shower first thing in the morning before I’m even technically awake.

4. I have always wanted a pet dragon. I am fully aware that there is no such thing as a dragon AND that dragon and pet are probably two words that should not be ever used in the same sentence in correlation to one another. I don’t care and I laugh in the face of your rules.

5. I took shop for a semester in 8th grade and as one of my elective classes in 9th grade (in Saudi). I made a standing desk clock (8th grade) and a drop leaf table (9th grade). I considered failing the 9th grade so I could take shop again because the next year they were going to make china cabinets. My boarding school didn’t offer shop and I think my mom was secretly happy because if they had, I’d probably be a carpenter now and I would so be the female Ty Pennington. Seriously.

6. I took a computer programming summer class when I was in either kindergarten or first grade because my dad thought it would be a good learning experience for me. I was the youngest kid in the class. I remember what I did in the class, but not how to do it.

7. I can play the piano and the violin. I started “playing” the piano when I was old enough to sit at the piano bench alone. I started taking piano lessons when I was 5. I stopped for one year in high school, but then took it up again and then quit taking lessons when I went to college. I started playing the violin in 4th grade and took lessons all the way through high school. I still have my violin. Every now and then I’ll get it out and play it.

OK. That’s it. I can’t believe I made it to 7 and if you’ve made it this far, you should pat yourself on the back and have a cookie.

I did middle school shop, too. I went to a “special” school – it consisted of gifted, physically/mentally disabled and emotionally disturbed kids (usually with a history of disruptive if not criminal behavior.) Lots of potential for a “Lord of the Flies” situation. At any rate, I was the only girl to take shop and the only non ED kid. Several of the kids weren’t allowed to use sharp objects unsupervised. It was a blast. We worked with metal as well as wood. The drill press and welding were my favorites. My mom still has the fireplace tool set I made. Her fear was that I’d bring my finger home in a box.

  • Girl you would put Ty Pennington to shame.

I’ve got one like it, only mine is a baby dragon in an egg. I first saw them at a GenCon gaming convention.

  • Oh my god. I totally want one.

  • Moomintroll had a pet dragon. Nobody made fun of him, they were ALL JEALOUS!!!!

Also, just think how much freekin moneys you’d have if you were Tyra Pennington!

OK. I had a cookie. I wash in a specific order too: hair, body, face, for the same “I’m not awake yet” reason.

    No dragons though.
