Behind Your Back

I may have been knitting on a little something something behind the blog’s back. Sorry about that. It wasn’t intentional, I just didn’t know how it was going to turn out so I figured I would just suprised you with an FO instead of you having to read about my woes. I present to you the Tube Sock Hat.

The Tube Sock Hat got its name last night at Stitch ‘n Bitch at Knit Nouveau. Funny story, actually. One of the ladies brought the most delicious cookies and I was eating one and pretty much having a mouth orgasm when someone asked me what I was knitting. My prompt reply was "sock." Needless to say (but I’m going to say it anyway), I got some funny looks. Realizing what had come out of my mouth, I quickly corrected myself and said "hat" and then something about the cookie being really good.

Also, and this was kinda neat, I met another Grace. (Pssst, Celeste, I met the real blonde Grace. As in, she’s a natural blonde.)

She introduced herself to me and said, "Hi, I’m Grace."

And I said, "Really? So am I."

I mean, how often does that happen? And with a name like Grace, too. [tangent]Well, other than that one time I went to Torch Camp in Korea and only half the girls there were named Grace, too. I literally stopped responding to my name because I heard it so much. My friends found this somewhat frustrating when they were trying to get my attention. [/tangent]

I have two more projects lined up that I have to finish within the next two weeks. I think I can make it happen.

First up, the Jayne Cobb Hat for my big bro, Patrick C. His birthday is October 14th and his wife kinda volunteered me to make him this hat, but I’d make it for him anyway, because he’s worth it and he’ll appreciate it properly. I got the yarn last night. That is both the pro and con of having Stitch ‘n Bitch at the yarn shop. The ability to make yarn purchases while drinking wine. Actually, I think I did a fairly decent job. Check it out.

I can get started on it as soon as I find out just how big his head really is. Har har. I’m talking circumference, people. Not ego.

And then there is the Scarf for Gopi. I maybe promised him a scarf a little over a year ago and am just now getting around to it. You’d think I’d have started on this sooner as much grief as he’s given me about it, but no. Anyway, I’ve finally realized that I’ve had the perfect yarn for him all along. Well, not all along, but maybe for the last 4 – 5 months at least.

There’s one more grey ball not photographed. I think this will be rather lovely. I even have a pattern in mind already. Sweet!

  • I like the colors – is the tube sock hat variegated or did you work from two skeins? And what brand of yearn (um, I mean, YARN) is the red, orange, yellow?
