A few weeks ago I finally took the plunge and went to The Fitting Touch. It is a boutique geared towards properly fitting women for bras. I was really nervous going in, but I had made my mind up. I was tired of looking frumpy all the time no matter what I wore and I knew was wearing the wrong size bra. Sometimes enough is enough, you know?
I walked into the store and was quickly greeted by one of the staff. She was very kind and asked if I needed help with anything. When I told her I wanted to get fitted, she took me back to a dressing room. The dressing room was rather large and?comfy and the “door” was actually a heavy curtain that fell to?and pooled?on the floor. When she pulled it shut, I felt very secure about not being seen. She took me in and asked me to get down to my bra and she would be back in in a minute. I did as I was told. When she came back in, she surveyed me in my current bra and then measured?under my bust and across the fullest measure of my chest. Then she told me she would be back with a few bras for me to try on. She told me to put one on and then she would step back inside to check the fit.
And let me tell you something, it fit like a dream. It did, however, take me some time to get used to the idea of just how wrong I was about the size of my boobs. I had previously been in a 38C/D. I was SO off. My properly fitting bra turned out to be a 36F. Yes, you read that correctly. F. As in A B C D E F. As in Fuckinghellmyboobsarehuge.
Anyway. Moving along.
I went from a horribly ill-fitting bra to one that felt like it had been made just for me. I was in heaven. The real deciding factor, though, was when I put my shirt back on to see how I looked with clothes on. It was amazing! I had a shape that didn’t resemble The Blob! My waist had definition again and my boobs were front & center and perky looking! Just like they were back in college. And the best part? NO MORE BACK ROLLS.?I was sold.
I tried on somewhere between 6 and 8 bras and I never once left the dressing room. It was awesome. There was constant feedback between myself and the girl helping me on the bras I was trying on. Was?it comfortable? Did I like this style better? What other colors might I like to try??She would periodically check the fit on a bra to make sure I was still in the right size. It was awesome.
I ended up buying the?first two bras I tried on. I love them. I spent a small fortune on them and left the store within an hour.?And the money I spent on these bras? WORTH EVERY PENNY.
I waited to do this review after I had worn my bras for awhile because I wanted to make sure I still loved them after a few weeks wear. And I do. My shoulders don’t hurt and aren’t as tense as they used to be. My posture is better.?I don’t have to make a conscious effort to straighten my shoulders and stop hunching over. I look better in my clothes. I feel better.
So this is my PSA to all you ladies out there, regardless of how big your boobs are: Get thee to a bra fitting specialist. Amen.

I soooo need to give in and buy the right size. I was fitted a couple of years ago and when I heard my cup size I just couldn’t bring myself to buy it! LOL!!
Cindy was just went a couple of weeks ago, you make the second recommendation….guess I’ll have to go back…..perky you say????????? I haven’t seen perky in….well……Hmmmm, wonder if they have an opening today??? LOL!!!
Thanks for the PSA!!!!!!!!
I did the same about 1 month ago. A friend of mine that deals with the same issues went over on our lunch one day. I was buying the biggest bra I could find in the department store, 40DD. My new size is a 36GG. My husband says it’s 36 (Good God). Yes, that is a wonderful store and I recommend it to every busty person. Well worth the money. But I am still contemplating a breast reduction.
It always amazes me how much larger they measure you than what you think you are. I saw something like that on Oprah and almost everybody was a larger size. I wonder what mine are? Hmmm…road trip Darlene?
I did that at a store in Atlanta, it was THE BEST THING I ever did. I bought some expensive ones, too. But they were well worth it. Except when Riley Mae – Lisa’s puppy – ate the $80 one and I wanted to kill her. Much like you with Charlie. ARGH!!
But yes, good bras make for good boobs. (even for us 36C’s)
Also, she taught me how to fit myself, so now I can shop pretty well at other stores so I don’t have to spend a fortune all the time.
Clearly I need to visit Alabama.
OMG I bought bras this weekend!!! I’d been fitted before, so I more or less knew my size. But I heard, once, that if you’re a 36C (for example), you should also try a 38B because they’re almost the same, but yet just slightly different. So I did this and it was PERFECT. Although I still tried on about 40 bras to find 3 styles I liked. What’s up with the cups pointing your boobs out to the SIDE anyway? Who wants that? Yet almost all the bras I tried did this to me! Maybe it’s just me though!
But seriously – bra shopping is WAY WORSE than swimsuit shopping! I wish I’d have thought to go to the place you went!
Oh and padded bras!! THEY’RE EVERYWHERE!!! And who wants that?! I just want mine contained and lifted, not bigger! Lose the extra padding people!
Sorry – on a rant about this……..
I’m on Keri’s ranty wavelength. Dude, I am a 36 C (those people at Victoria’s Secret fitted me last year), and while that is not as large as it could be, it doesn’t need frikkin’ padding.
And no wonder you were having posture and back problems! You were squeezing your girls into something 2-3 sizes too small for them. Think how your waist would feel if you tried on pants 2-3 sizes too small!
Word. I need to do that too.
I can just SEE B’s secret blog post about this. “dude, you guys HAVE to pity me…my wife…has HUGE boobs. HUUUUUGE, man. I don’t know what i’m gonna do…”
and in the comments:
- no way dude, that sucks
- wow, man. i feel for ya.
- maybe you can find a support group somewhere.
- dude…does she have a sister?
HA! I amuse myself. seriously, though. isn’t a well fitting bra the best thing EVAH??? the first time I tried on a bra that was actually the right size for me, it was like a light shone down from above, and a choir of heavenly angels sang hymns of joy and praise. I DO NOT HAVE A SQUISHY UNI-BOOB SITUATED AROUND THE MIDDLE OF MY TORSO! HOORAY!
The sister is practically flat-chested by comparison…HAHA!!
I want breast reduction too, but I want Cindy to have it for me!!! So glad you had such a good experience & outcome!
“F” could stand for “foluptuous”!!!! God, I have such sick humor………….
My children sucked the
lifeboobies right off of me.If there was ever a post that needed pictures…
