I didn’t get to start on a shawl this weekend, but I did reorganize my stash. B and I spent the entire weekend rearranging furniture, unpacking my shit and cleaning house. I am not going to bore you with pictures of how the house looks now. Just be satisfied in knowing that it actually looks like a home now and not like vagrants are just passing through or squatters have taken over a place but not really claimed it for their own. Whichever scenario works best for you. It doesn’t look like that anymore and that’s what’s most important. That and the fact that my stash is somewhat organized.
Behold.
I got done organizing my yarn and was feeling pretty smug about my stash. I was thinking, “I really don’t have all that much yarn. And some of this yarn I made myself. I rock. I have a whole shelf free for more yarn.”
And then it dawned on me. Part of my stash is missing. Can you see what’s missing?
The sock yarn (and some bulky Lamb’s Pride, some Noro Lily, a cake of hand spun lace weight (not mine) and some roving).
Remember how we’re always saying sock yarn doesn’t count because it’s sock yarn? Well, I’m starting to think that maybe, just maybe, it counts a little.
There were also a few projects that were missing. I remedied all that. Damn. Maybe I have a little more yarn that I thought. Well, um, I wasn’t planning on buying anymore yarn, so at least there’s that. As for the making more yarn? Well, I’m still doing that so, uh, my stash might grow a little more. Possibly.
I also got all my knitting books together in one one place. Along with my needles.
And my magazines are in here.
And all my finished objects are in here.
And they are tucked in here.
And then I went through the rest of my shit and found all the patterns I’ve printed out over the years and the notebooks they’re stuffed in and put them in with the rest of my books and in between the two baskets. I didn’t bother to take pictures of that. At that point, I was so worn out, I just wanted to face plant onto the bed. Except we had to make the bed first. Damn.

I’m jealous. You have your own cabinet for storing your knitting stuff? Mine is in a few bins in my closet…a basket it the living room…another basket next to my chair…a bag in my car…Yeah. I would say that my knitting stuff is the least organized things in my apartment. (Same with my crafting, sewing, painting stuff.) I wish I had my own nook. Just a little area for ALL my stuff to dwell. If it had a desk, that would be cool, too. Right now my printer and my laptop hang out on my dining room table.
BTW, my stash is bigger than yours…
Too bad mine’s filled mostly with acrylic crap I bought a few years back when I was just starting out! Ha!
I’m on ravelry now (!!!), so you’ll have to check out my stash once I get it all entered in my notebook.
Yes. My stash used to be organized like that. But a word of warning: it migrates. Knitting stuff doesn’t like to be all in one place. Suddenly, a magazine and a ball of unlabeled yarn will be sitting on your coffee table, two books on your night stand, several WIPs next to the couch, and two different sized knitting needles will fall into the cracks in the couch.
But it’s always nice to have a day or two of organization
Yeah…. what evilsciencechick said. uh huh.
Ok. So you have more talent in your needles than I have it have in my brush! So, if you run out of things to knit, since you have funck style, I would love a hat for boy and for girl for the winter. Interested? Email me chica!
