A Lesson in Stupidity

WordPress recently came out with 2.7 and I was all kinds of excited about it because it promised some really cool shit and, hi! I love the tech stuff. Even when I don’t know what the hell I’m doing, I love it. (Don’t believe the grumbling and moaning.)

HOWEVER. When I upgraded to 2.6.5, I started having problems with some of my plugins and so I tried to fix it. I’m not going to get into all the gory details, because I’m fairly certain most of you are getting all glassy eyed at the thought of me trying to explain to you in excruciating detail just what exactly I did. No. Instead, I will give you the response I e-mailed ESC when she asked me how it was going.

Well, like an asshole, I tried to fuck with the cpanel and use fantastico to reupdate 2.6.5 since it seemed to think I hadn’t updated. But, like a BIGGER asshole, I closed out of it because I thought it was hung up and then my whole blog was fucked, so I deleted EVERYTHING and had to start completely from the ground up. HOWEVER, I was at least smart enough to have installed WP Backups and I’m currently in the process of trying to reload everything from my Dec. 8 backup. I’ll lose a couple days of posts – maybe 2 or 3 days – which, all in all is not so bad considering I could have just lost nearly FIVE YEARS worth of blogging material.

And that is pretty much what happened. I lost some comments from the Blah Humbug post and I lost the two posts after that. And to everyone who’s comments I lost, I am truly truly sorry. You guys make my day and I hate that I lost your comments.

And let this be a lesson to all of you who use a self-hosted blog: BACK UP YOUR DATABASE REGULARLY.
