I Totally Effed That Oh

I FINISHED THE JACK IN THE PULPIT 3/4 SHAWL!!!!!!!1!!!1!!!!!!

What? What did you think I was talking about?

I honestly did not understand just how soul sucking a knitted edging could be until I started this edging. Don’t get me wrong, this shawl is beautiful and besides one mistake I found, it appears to be perfect and I could not be more proud of myself for this shawl. But the edging was no where near as fun as the body. The plus side, however, is that the edging is super easy to memorize and despite the beads involved, was really quite mindless knitting.

I know, right? I NEVER thought I would ever put lace and mindless knitting in the same sentence, but there you have it.

Anyway, this weekend ended up being a knitting of the lace edging marathon. In what equaled out to about 2.5 – 3 full days of knitting, I managed to finish the last 1/3 of edging, wove in all my ends* as soon as I bound off and immediately soaked and blocked** this puppy.

Soaking the ShawlI totally cleaned my sink just so I could soak this shawl
BlockingFYI: My bed is a KING. (TV remote for (more) scale.)

The best part? I mean besides finishing it? Tencel dries REALLY quickly. Especially if you have the ceiling fan blowing full tilt while you block it. Which meansĀ  MOAR PHOTOS!!

Shawl Back CloserThis shawl is way longer than my wingspan.
Shawl FrontThis shawl also goes great with pajamas.

Full Disclosure: Yes, I am totally in my pajamas outside in my front yard. I will henceforth be known as “that weird lady who takes pictures of herself in her front yard.” Also, that is not a weirdly placed tag peeking out of the back of my top. That would be the top of my tattoo. It’s a dragon. [/End Disclosure]

I am EXTREMELY happy with this shawl and I’m also EXTREMELY happy that it’s done.

Also, here’s what’s left over.

LeftoversI’m pretty sure there’s enough left over for a shawlette.

Would I knit another one of these? Honestly? No. One is enough for me. And you can bet your ass I will NOT be gifting this to anyone. IT’S MINE MINE MINE! But I thoroughly enjoyed knitting it even if the edging did get to me.

I would like to thank The Dresden Files, The Dollhouse Season 1 and The Guild Seasons 1 – 4 and Netflix for getting me through the final 1/3 of edging. And also my husband for entertaining himself with the PS3 while I completely ignored him for a bulk of the weekend.

*I rarely ever weave in the ends right away.
**I almost NEVER soak and block the day I finish a project.

  1. It’s gorgeous!!! Great job! Now YOU can be the one the old ladies fondle at SAFF this year ;)

  2. That’s just awesome. Especially with pajamas. :)

  3. It looks Fantastic! Congratulations on finally finishing it.

  4. But you said it was for ME!!! Just kidding, I wouldn’t give that thing away, either, it is too pretty and took too long to make. But I think you should let me wear it for a few minutes just so we can establish once and for all whether it is or isn’t my color.

  5. Whoa! You are Bad. Ass.

  6. Dude. That is freakin’ awesome! And you look hawt in it!

  7. It’s GORGEOUS!!! I know it took a long time to finish, but I think it was worth it. Very nice.
