Is It Just Me?

There is something both maddening and hypnotic about garter stitch.

Garter Stitch Baby Blanket

I kept wanting to put this blanket down and knit something else, but I couldn’t. I physically could not do anything else except knit this blanket.

Well, that’s not entirely true. I did do a little house cleaning when I couldn’t take the garter stitch anymore. But the thing about garter stitch??It sinks into your brain and when you’re not doing it, you can’t think about anything else. Must. Knit. Garter. Stitch. NOW. It’s worse than a chocolate addiction.

And here’s the thing. I started this blanket way back when I was a beginner. I (very laughably) thought I could knit a baby blanket in two days on size 8 needles. With only 2 balls of yarn. Albeit, there are pretty big balls, but the yarn is double stranded. Can we say delusional?

It’s about 33″ across and I’d like to get it at least 30″ tall, if not an even 33″ tall.

I’m going to have to buy 2 more balls of this stuff. It’s ACK!rylic and squeaky, yet surprisingly soft. I also bought this yarn at least 3 years ago, if not longer. I’m going to have a hell of a time finding yarn to match the colors?even a little. I’m hoping it won’t be too obvious when it’s all said and done.?

This is going to be the Blanket of Doom?. I just know it. Good thing I’ve got 3 months before the baby is born.

  1. I started one of those when I first started knitting. I chucked it a while ago, I just couldn’t bring myself to deal with it. More power to ya!

  2. I’m afraid, we’ve all had those delusional moments in our knitting histories!!! Knit happens……………
I know what you mean about acrylic being squeaky, but I think your beautiful blanket will keep it’s baby very warm & happy.

  3. It’s a very soothing process, garter stitch. I’m working on the MDK Log Cabin blanket, my “Blanket of Doom.” I’m at the point right now though that I wanna poke my eyes out after working on the darn thing for more than half an hour!

I love the little girly blanket – the colors are sweet!

  4. OMG you’re pregnant??!!!!! Congrats!!!!

lol Just joking/trying to liven up my Monday. I do love a touch of the garter stitch too. Sometimes you just get sick of thinking – you know? I mean, it’s hard being brilliant ALL THE TIME!

  5. I tried knitting a Dr. Who scarf and it almost drove me insane. 6′-7′ of endless garter stitch. *shudder*
