I've Got My Knit On

I have no pictures to show for all my knitting progress, but I swear, I’m knitting up a storm. A bonefide knithead, I tell you. Really.

The doggy cape thingie is coming along nicely. I’ve another two inches to knit on the body before I split it for the neck. I’m starting to run a little low on the obnoxious pink, so I think for the neck, I’m going to switch the colors up and make the variegated turqoise-y blue the main color and the obnoxious pink the accent color. I think I’m also going to make the belly band in the turqoise-y blue. You know why? Because you SHOULDN’T leave well enough alone. What’s the fun in that?

Oh, and I found this FABULOUS tutorial about knitting two socks at the same time on two circs at Sheron’s 2 Socks on 2 Circulars. Talk about wonderful. I’m going to use this concept to do the sleeves for Hoodie and for KGI Raglan Sweater. I’ll be heading to Knit Nouveau Satur morning to get me some more circs. Shucks, don’t you just hate it when you have to buy more stuff to knit with?

Oh, and as for the switch? Well, I just liked that typepad handles more things all by itself, like hosting pictures and creating albums and things of that nature. Still, I’m having to learn new software, so it’s going to be slow getting the site like I want it, but I will….eventually…..so "bare" with me til then!

Work In Progress

After much deliberation, and a little over a year of blogging, I’ve decided to make the switch to typepad. This is officially my last post over here. I’ll keep this site up until I can get everything moved over completely, so for now, bare with me while I slowly move all my stuff! So now you can find me here: kNiThEaD. Same bat name, new bat location.

I Am Officially The Lamest Person Ever

I went to sleep around 6pm last night. I woke up once around 7ish? to take out my contacts and then again at 10:30, but only because Bear was barking at something on the balcony and
OHMYGODITIS10:30ATNIGHTWHYAREYOUBARKINGI’MTRYINGTOSLEEP!
(Bear was on the balcony; whatever he was barking at was NOT on the balcony…I think.) After that, I didn’t wake up again until the alarm went off this morning. My justification for such an act of hibernation? A combination of lack of sleep during the weekend, stupid time change and A.L.L.E.R.G.I.E.S.

Growing up in the desert, I had no idea what allergies were. Pollen is not so much an issue in the land of SAND. Yesterday my head felt like the good year blimp having a fat day. Not a pleasant feeling, y’all. Anyway, to make up for the ULTRA LONG POST of Sunday and the fact that I neglected my poor little blog yesterday, I present you with pictures….of knitting no less (plus a couple other things)!

The colors are all screwed up, but you can see the pattern well. Its actually a bright obnoxious pink and a variegated blue. I’ve said that before, but it’s looking all Christmas-y for some reason thanks to the camera/lighting.

Please don’t tell my Aunt B that I tried on her sock. Not only did I try on her sock, but the second sock is still not finished yet so I am still officially the worst niece ever.

My brand new loose leaf tea infuser from Adagio Teas and that is a sample tin of black currant tea down in front. Again, I apologize for the poor lighting and the overall yellowness of the picture.

Last but oh so not even a little in the least is Grandma’s sewing machine sitting in the passenger seat of Kira the soov. I’ve called a couple of Singer certified repair places and the prices have varied greatly to have have my machine tuned up. Anywhere from $50 to $80! Of course, the one that is farthest from my apt is the cheapest one. Guess what I’ll be doing Satur?

He Gets Points for Trying

It’s been a gorgeous weekend and the weather has been spectacular. Friday night was a nice quiet evening at home, knitting and listening to a movie. I put the movie in, but I don’t really watch it. I just listen to it. I haven’t quite mastered knitting without looking. Anyhoo, it was a nice uneventful evening, once I got done running errands.

Satur morning, I went to look at a house. Well, I attempted to look at a house. It turns out that the house had been sold and the realtor who sold it didn’t bother to list that it had been sold so my friend, DLF, who is a realtor, didn’t know. She knew that the house was vacant and figured we could just go look. I wasn’t too terribly disappointed since I wasn’t totally comfortable with how close the house was to the industrial area nearby. Anyway, DLF knows what I’m looking for, so she’s going to keep her eye out for me. And, since I’m not in a huge hurry to buy, there’s no big rush. In fact, summer is a better time to look for a house around here and that’s when my lease will be up so that’ll be better anyway. I figure it will all happen in good time and when its supposed to happen so no worried.

Whew, ok, so after the not looking at the house we were going to look at (my pops went with me), we headed down to Clanton to pick up my bro T to go to a drag race in Montgomery. That was the plan, anyway. Our bro D was driving up from Pensacola to go to the race with us. However, when we got to Montgomery, there was NO RACE. Of course, we were in Montgomery for over an hour before we found that out. There was nothing at the track saying that the race had been cancelled. There was a bill board in front of the track with the track’s name on it and with a blank space that probably was where they listed whatever race was SUPPOSED to be going on. THERE WAS A WEBSITE, BUT NO PHONE NUMBER ON THE BILLBOARD. Why? Most people carry a cell phone with them, but not necessarily a computer! Anyway, there were some other people that were heading to the race that knew the phone number (I’m assuming they were locals) and called it while we were there. Now please keep in mind that it was a clear blue gorgeous day Satur. It was a little windy, but it was in the high 60s, not a cloud in the sky. It had rained the night before, but the track appeared to be dry. OK, back to the two guys who knew the number for the track and called it. There was a recording saying that THE RACES HAD BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO THE WEATHER. Huh? I’ve never heard of cancelling races on account of GOOD WEATHER! Can somebody please explain this to me? It was an asphalt track! Well, at least I got to hang out with my bros and my pops. That was cool.

Satur afternoon, I got to ride in K’s new car. I was drooling and so glad he let me ride in it! He got a black 350Z convertible. Very nice. That’s going to be my next car….I wish! Don’t worry, I still love my Kira. I’ve just always liked the 350Z. I think I would prefer a hard top to a convertible, though. Even though the convertible is VERY NICE. Anyway, after that, I went and saw Sin City with my friend A. We grabbed some grub and caught up with each other before heading to the movie. I will say that Sin City is an amazing movie. Very violent, very rough, but amazing. Not for the faint of heart or small children. That is FOR SURE. Just go see it if you’re old enough.

I’ve been working on the doggie cape and just loving it. Turns out, though that I have until October 2 to get these done so I’m feeling less rushed to finish it and I think I will make one more sweater for the charity event. It’s a Boston Tea Party for the Alabama Boston Terrior Rescue. I’ve used other people’s patterns for these things, but I’m donating them to this non-profit organization and they are going to have a fashion show and auction to raise money for their Rescue. I plan on making little cards to go with each item I knit that lists who the pattern is by as well as my name as having knit it. I think that will take care of any copyright issues and shouldn’t be stepping on anyone’s toes that way.

Today I did something I haven’t done in years. I went to church. It was an amazing experience for me since I’ve had a hard time finding a church I like since moving to Birmingham. K told me about Mountaintop Community Church a while back and I decided to visit today. It was like a homecoming. I really liked it. I’ve been feeling the need to get back into a church lately, and I think I’ve found the one I want to belong to. I’ll definitely be going back, that’s for sure.

Now, I’m sure you’re wondering what any of this has to do with the title of this post. I was out walking Bear this afternoon and this random guy walked up to me and asked me if I believed in volunteering. Being somewhat suspicious of strangers by nature, I hedged and replied that it depended on the cause. His response? “Would you like to volunteer to be my girlfriend?” I just kind of laughed and said “Nice try.” So, he does get points for originality. I’ve never heard that one before!

Ok, last thing I want to share. I think I posted a little while back that I’ve decided that my new thing I want to learn to do is to sew. Well, I mentioned it to my dad and that I wanted to get a sewing machine and it turns out that he had my grandmother’s old Singer sewing machine and her sewing table! Talk about a treasure! Its in my soov right now. I can’t wait to get it home! Not only have I got my grandmother’s sewing machine, but all her sewing supplies. There are all kinds of cool things to go through! I’ll be taking pictures tonight and probably posting them tomorrow. I’m going to try and take pictures tonight, but it will depend on the quality of the pictures as to whether or not they get posted tomorrow. Its been hit or miss lately. Of course, ya’ll already know that. I’m going to need to take the sewing machine to a repair shop and have it cleaned up and probably some parts replaced before I can use it, but I can’t wait! It’s been sitting without use for several years. Oh, and also, because Grandma NEVER threw anything away, it still has the ORIGINAL MANUAL. How cool is that! I am so excited! Once I get it fixed up, the only thing I’ll need is some fabric and a pattern!

Actual Knitting Content

*gasp!*

I have been knitting, people. Apparently, I have no compunction about neglecting to mention my knitting on my KNITTING BLOG. Is that what this is?

Anyhoo…Wednesday after work, I went back to the dealership so they could install the cage pet divider in my Xterra (aka Kira). While I was there, I proceeded to work on the much neglected second sock for my Aunt B. Remember those socks? Yeah, I must be the worst niece ever. Anyway, a girl came up to me and asked me what I was making and then proceeded to ask me how much I charged for a pair of socks. I told her I only knit for myself. Has this happened to anyone else? I thought that a little strange. Anyway, back to the sock, I’m about a 1/4″ from turning the heel on the second sock. I’m hoping to have some time this weekend to knit and then maybe I’ll get them done, but we shall see. My weekend is looking to be action packed.

Also on Wednesday, after I got home and walked Bear, I headed over to my dad’s for our ritual of dinner and Alias on Wednesday nights. While I was over there, I started on the doggie sweater/cape. It’s really more like a cape with a tummy strap. Still, I’m really enjoying the pattern and I love the colors I’ve paired together. An obnoxiously bright pink with a variegated turqoise-y blue. I’m use the blue as the accent color, so the doggie cape is mostly obnoxiously pink. It’s actually the pink yarn that I originally bought to make Womb with, but then found that it was not going to work because it was too difficult to work 6 stitches of doubled yarn on 4 dpns. What was I thinking? I will eventually buy the correct weight yarn to make Womb because I really want to make it…and soon.

I have managed to get a little kniting done here and there on the sock on my lunch breaks at work, but its been sporadic this week. I’d say it has been one hell of a week and TGIF Baby!
