Shortly after B and I started dating, I met the Little Man. He took to me rather quickly and gave me a few things he had made. This is one of those things. I keep it on my window sill at work to remind me of him and also to remember that no matter how stressful things get at work, I can always indulge my inner child and things will be all right.

Here’s the thing though, sometimes it won’t be all right.

A friend of mine just found out that he’s got lung cancer. The cancer is actually inside his right lung and it is entrenched and inoperable. It’s in his lymph node in his neck. (They think they can remove that lymph node.) They’re talking about some really aggressive chemo and at best, he might have another year.

A year.

And you know what his response to that was? “A year is good. I can get a lot done in a year.”

He’s only just found out recently, but he’s keeping his spirits high. He’s still got his sense of humor. He refuses to let the nurses and doctors treat him like a dead man or an object. He’s still got his spunk. He’s getting his things in order. He’s still himself. I admire that. A lot.

I don’t think it’s really sunk in for any of us just yet. I do know this, though, he’s going to give that cancer a run for its money.
